Marian Gaborik is on the move once again. Gerald Hodges Jersey . The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded Gaborik to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Matt Frattin, a second-round draft pick and a conditional third-round pick. Gaborik, 31, has appeared in 22 games with the Blue Jackets this season, scoring six goals and eight assists. He is currently in the final year of a five-year, $37.5 million contract he signed with the New York Rangers prior to the 2009-10 season and is slated to become an unrestricted free-agent on July 1. Gaborik was selected third overall at the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild. He has appeared in 791 career NHL games with the Wild, Rangers and Blue Jackets, scoring 342 goals and 346 assists. The Blue Jackets acquired him from the Rangers prior to the 2013 NHL trade deadline along with Blake Parlett and Steven Delisle in exchange for Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett, John Moore and a sixth-round draft pick. Gaborik has represented Slovakia on a number of occasions including the 2006 and 2010 Olympics. He was selected to his nations team for the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russia but was unable to play due to injury. Frattin, 26, was acquired by the Kings from the Toronto Maple Leafs over the off-season as part of the return for goaltender Jonathan Bernier. In 40 games with the Kings this season he has scored two goals and four assists. In 122 career games with the Maple Leafs and Kings, Frattin has scored 17 goals and 17 assists. He was originally selected in the fourth round (99th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Maple Leafs. Corey Lemonier 49ers Jersey . Coach Chuck Pagano said Friday that Ballard was hurt making a cut in practice Thursday. "It was a non-contact injury, just put a foot in the ground, went to cut on a running play and knee went out on him," Pagano said. "Hell require season-ending surgery, unfortunately. We feel awful for Vick." Former New York Giants star Ahmad Bradshaw is expected to start Sunday against Miami, and the Colts (1-0) are promoting rookie Kerwynn Williams, their seventh-round draft pick, from the practice squad to the active roster. Former first-round pick Donald Brown also could see more action. Ballard was Indys top rusher in 2012. The rookie ran for 814 yards and two touchdowns but was best remembered for making the diving, twisting TD he scored on a 16-yard TD pass to beat Tennessee in overtime. Last week, Ballard ran 13 times for 63 yards and was 6 for 6 on blitz pickups. He declined to talk with reporters Friday in the locker room. Dwight Clark 49ers Jersey. But his teammates were supportive. "Unfortunately, its the game of football and its not the first time its happened to somebody on this team this season," Brown said. "Unfortunately, it probably wont be the last, either. Its a very tough injury and you hate to see somebody who puts in the work like he did, to see that happen to somebody like that. But next man up and you have to keep going." Tight end Dwayne Allen missed practice again with a hip injury but Pagano said he was probable for Sundays game against Miami. Linebacker Pat Angerer (concussion) was a full participant at practice for the third consecutive day. Linebackers Kavell Conner (ankle) and Jerrell Freeman (quad) did limited work and are listed as questionable. Linebacker Erik Walden (hamstring) returned to full work after being limited Thursday. Walden also is listed as questionable. Receiver David Reed (concussion/quad) did not practice and has been ruled for Sundays game. Heading into the Olympic break, the St. Josh Mauro Jersey . Louis Blues continue on top of the TSN.ca NHL Power Rankings, a spot the Blues have held seven times to this point in the season, the most of any team. The Blues, who have on regulation loss in the past eight, are ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks. On a 5-1-1 stretch in the past seven games, the Montreal Canadiens gained ground to move from 13 to nine. The Philadelphia Flyers, on a four-game winning streak, move from 20 to 16 and the Minnesota Wild, who have thrived despite injuries, are up from 23 to 20. Heading the other way, the Winnipeg Jets had back-to-back losses for the first time under Paul Maurice and, as always, goaltending is a concern, contributing to their slide from 12 to 17. The Carolina Hurricanes slip from 16 to 19, though if they are really prepared to keep goaltender Cam Ward in the background, that ranking would improve based on how well Anton Khudobin has played when given the opportunity this year. No team should be welcoming the Olympic break more than the Vancouver Canucks, who have two regulation wins in the past 20 games and desperately need to get healthy if they are going to mount a late-season charge to recapture a playoff spot. In any case, the Canucks slide sees them drop from 19 to 23. Among the rest of Canadian teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs sit at 15, up a couple of spots, and their highest placement in the rankings since late November. A blowout loss to Boston in the final game before the break knocked the Ottawa Senators down a couple of spots, from 22 to 24, while the suddenly-improving Edmonton Oilers are up from 28 to 26, and the Calgary Flames are down from 27 to 28. Scott Cullen can be reached at Scott.Cullen@bellmedia.ca and followed on Twitter at http://twitter.com/tsnscottcullen. For more, check out TSN Fantasy on Facebook. Troy Niklas Jersey . Toronto has dropped games to Indiana and Miami since a five-game winning streak and closed out a three-game road trip at 1-2. Chandler Jones Cardinals Jersey . After taking two big hits this week -- losing at home and dropping back-to-back games for the first time all season -- Indiana struck back by playing its most complete game of the year. http://www.authenticcardinalsfootball.com/Youth-Kurt-Warner-Elite-Jersey/ . Jane Virtanen scored two, and Alex Roach and Elliott Peterson rounded out the offence for the Hitmen (40-15-6). Brady Brassart chipped in with three assists. Colton McCarthy scored twice, Brayden Point had a goal and two assists, and Jack Rodewald also scored for the Warriors (15-35-9), who were 2 for 5 on the power play.RENTON, Wash. - Somewhere along the way, "pedestrian" became a favoured word for the Seattle Seahawks receivers. Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse and Golden Tate each used the word in some fashion after the Seahawks beat San Francisco to win the NFC championship Sunday. It was their way of responding to critics who have panned Seattles receiving corps as one of the weak points in the Seahawks roster. "It irritates the hell out of me when weve got guys who constantly want to talk about our receiving corps," Baldwin said after the 23-17 win over the 49ers. "Talking about were average. Were pedestrian. Were going to walk our ... to the Super Bowl. Pedestrians." Seattles receiving crew was supposed to have more experience and be considered a strength before the season began. Thats when the Seahawks were expected to have Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice as their starters, with Baldwin, Tate and Kearse filling secondary roles as extra receivers catching passes from Russell Wilson. But then Harvin missed 15 of 16 regular-season games following hip surgery in August and Rice was lost for the year after Week 8 with a knee injury. Its left an unheralded, underappreciated group as Seattles pass catching options. And while they despise being cast as a weak link, they also are more than happy to use those slights as motivation. Perhaps no player feeds off the negativity more than Baldwin. Before the NFC title game, the undrafted free agent out of Stanford talked about carrying a "boulder" around on his shoulder, not a chip. Then he made sure to note that pundits on Sunday morning were again pointing to Seattles receivers as the reason Wilson and the pass game had been struggling. "They were talking about Russell Wilson was struggling and the reason he was struggling was his receiving corps was appetizers," Baldwin said. "Ill take that. Ill be an appetizer. But thats a good ... appetizer if you ask me." Baldwin responded with one of the best games in his career on Sunday. He finished with six catches for 106 yards — the second-most in his three seasons — including a 51-yard reception in the first half that helped loosen the 49eers defence. Justin Bethel Cardinals Jersey. But he wasnt alone. Tate had four receptions and Kearse made one of the biggest catches in his young career. On fourth-and-7 early in the fourth quarter, Wilsons hard count got the 49ers to jump into the neutral zone. Knowing it was a free play, Seattles receivers broke off the original routes and headed vertical to the end zone. Kearse was able to get a step on Carlos Rogers and pulled in a 35-yard TD pass from Wilson with 13:44 left that gave Seattle a 20-17 lead that the Seahawks did not relinquish. "When you run a route you got to always expect that the ball could come to you. But when the ball is in the air its all instinct, its all play-making ability," Kearse said. "Russ threw a good ball at me, it just shows the trust he has in us and you know well just try to make the best of every opportunity." Then later, prodded by Baldwin, Kearse followed the line in the wide receivers room. "Im just a pedestrian trying to walk my way to the Super Bowl," he said. What makes Seattles group of receivers unique is the lack of credentials. Take Harvin out of the equation, and of Seattles top five receivers, four were undrafted: Baldwin, Kearse, Ricardo Lockette and Bryan Walters. Tate was the only draftee, taken in the second round in 2010. Its another example of general manager John Schneiders ability to unearth hidden talents, but the group also comes with a built-in motivation to prove wrong anyone who overlooked or undervalued their potential. They also play in an offence where numbers will never be extraordinary. Only four times in 18 regular and post-season games this season did Seattle attempt 30 or more passes. Three times they didnt even attempt 20 throws. That leaves limited opportunities when the offence calls for the tight end and running backs to be involved in the pass game as well. And all that is without Harvin, who is expected to have recovered from a concussion in time for the Super Bowl. "At the end of the day, we want to be a team that makes the big play when we need to," Wilson said. "Always make the consistent ones, but make the big play when we need to, and the guys have done that all year." Even with the benefit of a later deadline, Team Canada general manager Steve Yzerman and his staff have less than a month to decide on their roster for the Sochi Olympics. Barry Church Jersey . A week could still make plenty of difference in the long run. Now Canada has until Jan. 7 to name its 25-man group with injury replacements still possible. Another week might not make a huge difference in the case of Tampa Bay Lightning star Steven Stamkos, who is rehabbing from a broken right tibia. It would make all the sense in the world for Team Canada to name Stamkos to its initial roster in case he can return by early-to-mid-February. Where the extra time could really come into play is in helping some players heal up and others show that slow starts dont matter as much as hot streaks. There might not be room for the hottest Canadian-born player in the NHL come early January, but one or two spots being determined by whos on a roll isnt out of the question. Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers would be well served to pick up his offensive production, even though his rebound from a poor start (five goals and 15 assists in 29 games) has him back in the conversation. Problem for Giroux is, as Dallas Stars coach and Canada assistant Lindy Ruff said, the list of players who could make it is still "pretty long." No one has forced himself into that conversation more so than the Stars Jamie Benn. Playing left wing on the top line alongside Tyler Seguin has brought out the best in Benn, who wasnt invited to Team Canadas Olympic orientation camp in August. Benn said last week in Toronto he naturally used that as motivation, and Ruff said the converted centre was playing "like a possessed player" this season. Benn has seven goals and 19 assists in 28 games, second to only Chris Kunitz of the Pittsburgh Penguins among Canadian left-wingers. Who comes out to make room for Benn might not even be a matter of that player disappointing as much as a numbers game. Kunitzs numbers could have him in the conversation on their own, but his chemistry with Sidney Crosby cant be overlooked. Patrick Sharp of the Chicago Blackhawks brings versatility and the ability to play all three forward positions, but its easy to see him getting bumped at the last minute — or making it only if Stamkos cant go. Rick Nash of the New York Rangers didnt make the last projection while he was out with a concussion. Assuming he stays healthy through early January, Nash is a strong bet to sew up a spot, in this case knocking out Milan Lucic of the Boston Bruins. Jeff Carter of the Los Angeles Kings just returned from an extended absence with a foot injury, so its tough to gauge his candidacy at this point. Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks getting off to such a wicked start helps when Yzerman and Co. look at pure scorers, but it wouldnt hurt to have another one around, especially with Stamkoss status uncertain. On defence, Marc Staals neck injury and what New York Rangers coach Alain Vigneault called "symptoms," could ensure he doesnt make it to Sochi to play with brother Eric, who should be a lock after picking up his production. Staal could be the fourth-best left-handed option Team Canada has behind Chicagos Duncan Keith, Jay Bouwmeester of the St. Louis Blues and sneaky-good Marc-Edouard Vlasic of the San Jose Sharks, but that might not be enough because of the depth of righties. Assuming Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators doesnt experience lingering problems from taking a puck to the face, Alex Pietrangelo of the Blues keeps up his impressive play and Drew Doughty of the Los Angeles Kings stays healthy, the top three on the right side is set. Dan Boyle of the Sharks could be a good veteran to take for his work on the power play, while risk-reward case P.K. Subban of the Montreal Canadiens might prove too good not to take. That would mean three lefties and five righties, but with the ability to dress seven defencemen there was already going to be some imbalance. The place where theres no real fluidity might be in goal. Montreals Carey Price has a 1.95 goals-against average and .938 save percentage and could be called Team Canadas presumptive No. 1 goaltender. Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks (2.34, .916) doesnt have numbers that jump off the page, but he did win gold in 2010 and has the edge over goalies like Mike Smith of the Phoenix Coyotes and Corey Crawford of the Chicago Blackhawks because of that and his body of work. The Stampeders signed the former top rookie Thursday. Mallett missed the entire 2012 season with a torn Achilles tendon before being released by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last May. Mallett was the CFLs top rookie in 2009 while with the B.C. Lions. He ran for 1,240 yards and six TDs that season while adding 43 catches for 342 yards and two touchdowns. "Martell demonstrated great ability when he first arrived in the CFL and I know hes looking for a chance to prove that he is healthy and once again able to be a productiive player," Calgary coach/GM John Hufnagel said in a statement. Gavin Escobar Jersey. "Were hoping he can add depth to both the running back position and our return game and Im looking forward to seeing him in action at training camp." Mallett. 27, signed with the NFLs Philadelphia Eagles in 2010 and also spent time with the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants before returning to the CFL with Hamilton. "Ive been working hard this past year and Im 100 per cent healthy again," said Mallett. "Im very grateful to the Stampeders for this opportunity and I cant wait to get back on the field." BEREA, Ohio -- The Browns fired their coach after one season. Marcus Gilchrist Jersey . Now theyre sweeping out their front office. Owner Jimmy Haslam announced Tuesday that CEO Joe Banner will step down in the next two months and general manager Michael Lombardi is leaving the team. "Mike and Joe have left us in good position in terms of free agency and cap space as well as this years draft, where we have 10 overall picks and three of the first 35," Haslam said at a news conference. Its yet another stunning development for a franchise that has undergone nearly constant change in the past 15 years. Haslam also said assistant GM Ray Farmer, who was pursued by Miami to be the Dolphins GM this winter, has been promoted and will immediately take the over the teams football operations and lead the Browns during free agency and draft. Cleveland has two first-round picks in Mays draft and is well under the salary cap to spend on free agents. Haslam added that president Alec Scheiner will keep his current role. "Alec Scheiner will run our business side and remain as president, Mike Pettine will be our head coach and Ray Farmer will be our GM," Haslam said. "We will not have a CEO and those three people will report directly to me." The shake-up comes one month after the Browns finally hired coach Mike Pettine. Banner and Haslam had fired coach Rob Chudzinski after a 4-12 season, the teams sixth straight with at least 11 losses. Wisconsin said Tuesday that coach Gary Andersen was contacted by the Cleveland Browns for their coaching vacancy but decided not to pursue the position following a conversation with the NFL team, which spent 25 days to hire Pettine. "Mike will have final say on the 45-man roster-- who plays on Sundays-- and Ray will have final say on the 53-player roster," Haslam said. Banner, who previously worked in Philadelphia, was hired by Haslam to run the team shortly after his ownership was approved by the league in 2012. "We appreciate Joes contributions to the Cleveland Browns, especially in helping us as new owners," Haslam said in a release. "He was committed to creating a successful organization and bringing in talented individuals. We thank him for his work and dedication. We wish him and his family the best." Banner will transition out of his job over the next two months. "It is bittersweet leaving the Browns organization," Banner said. "I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Jimmy Haslam and helping him set the infrastructure for this franchise. I am proud of the talented individuals we brought in to help lead this team and feel that the Cleveland Browns are in good hands moving forward." Lombardis departure ends a curious second stint with the team. His hiring was widely panned by some Cleveland media members and many fans because of his time with coach Bill Belichick when he was Clevelands coach. Lombardi kept a low profile over the past year in Cleveland and was not in attendance at any major news conferences. "Were also grateful for Mike Lombardis efforts and commitment since rejoining our organization," Haslam said. "He is an experienced and creative NFL executive with a unique ability to see the big picture. He has tremendous instincts and I know hell be a valuable addition to any NFL organization. We simply wanted to give Ray this opportunity that hes earned. We wanted to move forward under his leadership and capabilities." SANTA CLARA, Calif. Benardrick McKinney Texans Jersey . -- Jim Harbaugh will turn to lip reading, motioning and even sign language if he has to in order to communicate with Colin Kaepernick to keep things running smoothly in the deafening noise of Seattles home stadium. Kaepernick plans to repeat his calls as many times as necessary in the huddle during the NFC championship game Sunday to make sure his teammates hear him. Solid communication through the chaos at CenturyLink Field will be paramount for Kaepernick, who had one of his worst performances as a pro in a 29-3 Week 2 loss to the Seahawks. On the eve of their first clash as coaches, when Mourinhos Chelsea visits Villas-Boas Tottenham in the English Premier League on Saturday, the latter admitted he no longer had a relationship with his one-time mentor and was not losing sleep over it. But Mourinho wasnt impressed with Villas-Boas admitting it in public. "I dont describe (the relationship), because Im not a kid to discuss relationships with the media," Mourinho said on Friday. "Its a personal thing. I dont care what he says. Im not here to comment on what he says. Im not interested." Villas-Boas worked under Mourinho as a scout at Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan before deciding to go his own way after being denied a more senior role. Their bond soured after Villas-Boas left Mourinho to take over Portugese team Academica. After winning an impressive treble in charge at Porto, Villas-Boas became coach at Chelsea and moved on to Tottenham. "We had a great personal and professional relationship before that we dont have now," he said. "I dont think we need explanations but our relationship broke down. I think we have the mutual respect for each other and we understand what weve been thhrough cannot just disappear, but its not like it was before. Vince Wilfork Jersey. " Villas-Boas and Mourinho both cite the late Bobby Robson as having a strong influence on their coaching careers while the Englishman was manager at Porto from 1994-96. Mourinho was Robsons interpreter at the club while Villas-Boas lived in the same block and famously once lectured the new manager on his tactics and player selection. Villas-Boas claimed connection with Robson seemed, however, to jar with Mourinho. When asked whether the "spirit" of Robson would be at White Hart Lane this weekend the Chelsea manager said, "Why? Where (did) he work with Andre?" Villas-Boas enters Saturdays game with the upper hand, with home advantage and a two-point lead over Chelsea in the standings. Spurs have won eight of their first nine games this season, conceding just one goal. "This game wont have any significant impact," Villas-Boas said. "Its normally in the games against the other teams that can affect your position a little more dramatically. This is a big clash between two teams that competed hard for the Champions League spots last season." He added, "I think we could have the tightest Premier League in years. We just have to continue getting the most amount of points as possible." FRANKFURT, Germany -- Bayern Munich set a Bundesliga record and opened up a four-point lead by beating Augsburg 3-0 on Saturday as Borussia Dortmund lost 2-1 in Wolfsburg. Darren McFadden Cowboys Jersey . Goals from Jerome Boateng, Franck Ribery and Thomas Mueller extended Bayerns unbeaten run to a record 37 matches. "This record is incredible," Bayern coach Pep Guardiola said. Elsewhere, Son Heung-min scored a hat trick against his former team for Bayer Leverkusen to beat Hamburger SV 5-3 and level on points with Dortmund. Schalke got two goals from Kevin-Prince Boateng in a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over Werder Bremen. Adrian Ramos scored twice to secure Hertha Berlins 3-2 victory in Hoffenheim, after the visitors squandered a two-goal lead. Bayerns victory broke Hamburgs 36-match unbeaten run from January 1982 to January 1983. Bayern last lost on Oct. 28, 2012, 2-1 against Leverkusen in Munich. With 32 points from 12 matches, Guardiola has the best start of all-time of a coach in the Bundesliga. Bayern is four points clear of Dortmund and Leverkusen, while Wolfsburg is fourth, seven points behind the duo. Dortmund hosts Bayern in the next round, after the international break. Bayern eased past Augsburg after taking an early lead through a goal by Boateng -- the half-brother of Kevin-Prince -- in the fifth minute. Dantes glancing header off a corner landed in front of Boateng at the far post and he turned and drilled a left-foot shot into the opposite corner. Ribery fired a free kick into the upper corner in first-half injury time and Mueller converted a penalty in stoppage time to complete the victory. Dortmund went ahead in Wolfsburg but then fell to its second defeat this week, after losing at home to Arsenal 1-0 in the Champions League. It also lost central defender Neven Subotic to a knee injury shortly before halftime and Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp said the Serbia international may have damaged a ligament. Subotic was taken to a hospital for tests. Marco Reus curled a free kick over the wall in injury time of the first half. But Ricardo Rodriguez replied with another free kick goal, swinging the ball into the area where it took a bounce to fool goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller, who just got his first call-up for Germany at age 33. Ivica Olic sealed Wolfsburgs fourth straight victory with another long-range shot inside the far post, while Reus hit the post with another free kick. Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski had two penalty calls denied in injury time and Klopp had a heated exchange with officials after the match. Wolfsburg won despite playing without the injured playmaker Diego. "We made it easy for them (Wolfsburg)," Klopp said. The most entertaining game was in Leverkusen, where the home side saw Hamburg come back to level at 2-2 before pulling away again, with Son also setting up one goal and producing a key loss of possession that led to Hamburgs third goal. The South Korea forward scored twice inside the first 16 minutes, both times with his left foot and both times after shaking off Hamburg defender Heiko Westermann. Hamburg fought back with goals from Maximilian Beister and Pierre-Michel Lasogga, before Son completed his hat trick, this time with his right foot, on a deflected pass from Stefan Kiessling. Son then set up Kiessling for Leverkusens fourth goal, before Lasogga got his brace and raised his season total to eight goals. Gonzalo Castro secured Leverkusens victory in the 89th by lobbing the ball over Hamburgs goalkeeper Rene Adler. In Gelsenkirchen, Schalke fell behind on a goal from Felix Kroos, the brother of Bayerns Toni, before Boateng turned the match around with two headers. Substitute Jefferson Farfan put the issue beyond doubt in injury time, knocking in pass from Julian Draxler. Hoffenheim overcame a two-goal deficit, only to see Ramos knock in his second goal with a header in the 84th. Anis Ben-Hatira scored early after being put through by Ramos and the Colombia forward doubled the lead by converting a penalty. Hoffenheim pulled level after Sejad Salihovic first scored from the spot and then fired a free kick into the roof of the net. Ramos was unstoppable, however, rising to score with a header. The Seminoles (4-0) have scored at least 80 points in each of their games. Montay Brandon added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Treveon Graham had 14 points to lead the Rams (3-1), who were denied their first 4-0 start since the 1993-94 season. Florida State lost in overtime to Virginia Commonwealth in the Sweet Sixteen of the 2011 NCAA tournament. There would be no repeat this time as the Seminoles took control late in the first half and then used an 11-0 spurt to open the second half. VCU also came in averaging more than 80 points per game and it made for a pace that was rapid from the outset. The Seminoles played with more control, though, and got a dunk off a set inbounds play just before halftime, then kept that momentum coming out of the locker room. They led by 26 at one point. Florida State led by 12 at the break, holding VCU to just 2 of 11 from the 3-point line and 10 of 33 shooting from the field.
