DENVER -- The Denver Nuggets contained Russell Westbrook for three quarters, but he took over with the game slipping away from Oklahoma City. Joe Mixon Womens Jersey .Westbrook had 36 points, 18 assists and 12 rebounds for his sixth triple-double, and the Thunder beat the Denver Nuggets 132-129 in overtime on Friday night.Westbrook scored 24 points in the fourth quarter and overtime to help the Thunder rally from 13 down and end a three-game losing streak. His 18 assists were a season high and the most in an NBA game this season. Its happened a couple of games. Its happened at different points throughout the year, Thunder coach Billy Donovan said. Its his will, his competitiveness and get our team in a position where we had a chance.Victor Oladipo had 26 points for the Thunder and a couple of key buckets late in the fourth, one off a steal. He did a great job, using his size, his length, getting out in transition and getting steals, Westbrook said. That helped us a lot, got us easy buckets.Westbrook scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to start the comeback. His two free throws with 9.5 seconds left made it 122-119, but Denver tied it when Steven Adams fouled Jamal Murray on a 3-point attempt and the rookie hit the free throws.Kenneth Faried blocked Westbrooks layup at the horn to send it into overtime, but the Thunder felt confident after rallying.Weve got to win, Westbrook said of the mood on the bench. Very simple.Wilson Chandler finished with a season-high 30 points and 11 rebounds. Jameer Nelson had 21 points and 13 assists, both season highs, for the Nuggets.I thought we played well enough offensively for sure to win the game, Nelson said. We just couldnt get stops when we needed them.Oladipo hit two free throws to put the Thunder ahead 128-126 in overtime. The Nuggets had a chance to tie in the final 20 seconds but Chandler missed a layup and Westbrook hit two more free throws with 13.7 seconds left.We lost a shootout, Nuggets coach Michael Malone said. My biggest disappointment is that we were never able to consistently get stops. We knew Westbrook at some point was going to go off.TIP-INSThunder: Westbrook finished an assist shy of his career high. He also had seven turnovers. ... Oklahoma City has used the same starting lineup in all 17 games.Nuggets: Murray finished with 20 points and seven rebounds. ... Denver had just 10 players active. Mike Miller and Will Barton were away from the team for personal reasons. Danilo Gallinari (right thigh), Juancho Hernangomez (right ankle sprain) and Gary Harris were all out. ... Denver Broncos Hall of Famer and current team executive John Elway was sitting courtside.SCARY MOMENTMurray took a hard fall when he was fouled on a dunk attempt. He was on the floor for a few minutes but got up and hit the two free throws.OLD SCHOOLMalone expressed plenty of admiration for Westbrook before the game. Malone likened the NBAs leading scorer to a bruiser from the days when the league was known for its rough play.I think hes a throwback player, Malone said. I think hes a guy that would have excelled back in the `80s, which is my favorite period of the NBA when (there wasnt) all this lovey-dovey, hug-and-kissing and no hard fouls. There were real rivalries and everything earned and every game you won had to be earned.UP NEXTThunder: Host Detroit on Saturday.Nuggets: At Phoenix on Sunday. Josh Malone Womens Jersey . R Ashwin completed his 22nd five-for in Test cricket to give India the edge by dismantling a strong England unit for just 255 runs - 200 runs in the deficit - in the second Test being played in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.England had already seceded early advantage by losing five wickets in 49 overs at stumps on the second day and they required Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes to dig deep to reduce the massive first-innings deficit. The duo put on a spirited 110-run display against an attack dominated by spinners on a surface that aided the spinning ball. While Bairstow looked for singles, Stokes hit the frequent boundary, while looking stoic in defense.Ashwin, in his first nine-over spell, didnt show signs of troubling the well-set duo who impressively negotiated Indias ace spinner. Apart from a half-chance for a stumping off Stokes, England looked comfortable through the morning session, until Umesh Yadav struck against the run of play as Bairstow played all around a straight ball from the seamer that rattled the stumps. At lunch, England had posted 191 for 6. Bairstows departure didnt affect Stokes approach as he counterattacked Indias seamers, who had taken the new ball post-lunch. Englands tactics prompted Ashwins recall and he stuck immediately to dismiss the dangerous Stokes lbw. Adil Rashid stubbornly resisted Indias spinners with a solid 73-ball 32, but wickets fell at the other end. Joe Mixon Bengals Jersey. Ashwin trapped Stuart Broad and James Anderson lbw, of consecutive deliveries to complete yet another five-for. Only three bowlers have taken more five-fors for India, namely Anil Kumble (35 in 132), Harbhajan Singh (25 in 103) and Kapil Dev (23 in 131). Overall, 14 bowlers have taken more five-fors in Tests. Ashwin is level with Waqar Younis, Malcolm Marshall, Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh on 22.Hadnt had a five-wicket haul against England, but it was not at the top of my mind, Ashwin said. I knew I would get it if I stuck to what I do right. The challenges are actually a hassle for the batsmen. Not every ball spins. I was in the middle of very good rhythm. I told Virat I will get Root out caught out at short midwicket. Virat said lets get mid-on up and make him go for a slog sweep. I thought the moment he steps out I was going to go wider. That worked. The last wicket was slow so I changed my action to create more air space. It is not about trials, it is about having the heart to try it in the middle of the game. I am sure I have it.Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane will take the crease on day four, with their side firmly in the drivers seat at 98 for 3 with a 298-run lead. Subscribe today!YOUR SON IS the starting point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers, a 20-year-old cast as their next superstar. It affords you luxuries once unimaginable. Mansion shopping in Brentwood? Perusing European sports car dealerships in Beverly Hills? Dream bigger. Yet here you, Antonio Russell, are on a late August afternoon, idling in your black GMC truck outside a vacant lot in a misbegotten patch of Louisville, Kentucky. The Southern sun is kicking the temperatures into the 90s as you roll down the drivers side window and start rebuilding the wooden shotgun house from memory: the marble floors, the stained glass windows, two built-in waterfalls, one on both floors. It was the jewel of Louisvilles West End, half a dozen blocks from Muhammad Alis childhood home. Your grandparents poured their lives into it, and you dreamed that someday theyd leave it to you -- it was all you ever wanted -- and, sure enough, they did. Then you put all their blood, sweat, love and trust in the name of a family member who took out a loan against the house, even though it was paid for, and eventually it fell into the citys hands. You learned the real estate business to try to buy it back, to save it, but you couldnt. So all that exists now is ankle-high grass and a few stone steps that lead to nothing but your mistake. You wish you had a picture handy. Oh, it was really something. Theres a reason you stop here 10 minutes into what will become a three-hour tour of your sons life. Once, you couldnt bear to be anywhere near here. That home was your responsibility, and you trusted the wrong person, and look what happened. And though the pain is still there, always will be, now you feed off it, reminding yourself how easily one mistake can destroy what it took a lifetime to build -- how without eternal vigilance, the most precious things can be taken from your life and bulldozed. These days, you visit all the time. Sometimes you grab McDonalds and pull up here to eat. Sometimes youll tell friends to meet you beside it. Sometimes youll drive by, just because, like today, when youre snaking through Louisville, from its inner city to its suburbs, pausing at parks where your son played, schools he attended, houses where he lived. Its a lesson that shapes you.I cant put my kids life and the outcome in anybody elses hands, you say. Anybodys.ABOUT A MONTH earlier, at high noon on a triple-digit Las Vegas scorcher, your son DAngelo moseys into an empty hotel conference room just off the Strip. As NBA custom dictates, a player of his caliber -- drafted No. 2 in 2015 -- should dominate summer league here, and so he has. In a few months, hell extend his hot streak into the season, serving up a buffet of 3-pointers and further evidence of his high-end court vision, establishing himself as the leading candidate to fill the vacancy left by Kobe Bryants retirement. But he cites, instead, another goal -- a family motto, he says, one his father instilled: Create new headlines.Going around the league, people know, Oh, he got in some trouble or He didnt play well his rookie year or Hes a bust. Thats the headline, DAngelo says. Im going to have a million more opportunities to create new headlines, and I cant wait. Cant wait. You remember the old headlines. Vast sums of ink were devoted to DAngelo last season when the Lakers capsized to a franchise-worst 17-65. The rookie clashed with then-Lakers coach Byron Scott, who publicly, and frequently, called the 19-year-old immature. Then in late March, a video surfaced of Russell filming a private conversation between himself and teammate Nick Young, who didnt appear to realize he was being taped. Russell, on camera, asked about Youngs love life outside of his relationship with his then-fiancée, Australian rapper Iggy Azalea. (Im glad you told my video all that, Russell could be heard telling Young. Huh? Young replied, turning his face toward Russell before the video cut out.) At a breakfast meeting soon after, no Laker would sit at Russells table, a source told ESPNs Ramona Shelburne; in another instance, the source said, Russell came into the locker room and sat next to guard Lou Williams, who got up and walked away. The resulting tension, sources say, played a role in the Lakers 48-point loss to Utah on March 28, tied for the worst loss in franchise history. How exactly the video leaked remains unclear, but Russell had broken one of pro sports most hallowed codes, exposing the inner sanctum of athlete hedonism. Even worse, hed done so to one of his teammates. DAngelo Russell goes down as the worst teammate in sports history!!!! Knicks guard Brandon Jennings tweeted in response to the scandal.Russells fledgling brand was dented. A high school coach in California contacted Ron Harris, a former assistant basketball coach at Montverde Academy in Florida, where Russell spent three years. Ron, your boy DAngelo? he said. The young guys out here do not care for him anymore. They dont want anything to do with him. They said theyre going to stop drinking Gatorade -- which Russell endorses -- because of what he did to Nick Young. Says Harris, He was like enemy No. 1 of the people for a while.Ask family members, childhood friends, teammates and coaches to describe Russell and youll hear prankster, jokester and fun-loving -- and some intimate that those traits led to the mishap. Sometimes, you can tell [players], The iron is hot, dont touch it, says Thomas Scott, an assistant/player development coach with the Lakers last season and Byron Scotts son. Some people want to find out.Still, others who know Russell well say the incident isnt like him at all. It was an accident, an aberration. Russell and Nick Young were friends, after all. D went to his sons birthday party and everything, says Jamie Johnson, Russells childhood friend. That situation was just over the head and the video got into the wrong hands, but thats not who he is.Russell, for his part, compares the situation -- and all of last season -- with being whistled for a foul; complaining wont change the verdict. What I went through last year was horrible, he says. But I can learn from it and turn it into a positive.Listen to those words again. As his father, you recognize them; its like listening to a tape of yourself. They are your words. These are the things youve said for years. But where were you through all of this? You try to tell yourself its all part of Gods plan. But still: You werent there. And look what happened.YOU HAD DESIGNS on moving to LA to protect DAngelo from those who might seek to prey on a newly minted teenage millionaire. But you didnt. You had a 3-year-old daughter, Chloe, back in Louisville. You couldnt stand to be apart from her. So instead you told DAngelos two older brothers -- Antonio and LaShawn Gilliam -- to leave college at Northern Kentucky University, take online classes and move in with DAngelo in LA. You called DAngelo five times a day, texted countless more, seeking every detail. My dad is one of the smartest guys I know, DAngelo says. Whenever he speaks, you listen. He can talk your head off. He can lecture your head off.You constantly worry that your kids are tuning you out; youve felt that way for years, even back when youd drive them to AAU tournaments all over. Pops, you been preaching to us all day, theyd say from the back seat, and youd pause. But then youd consider the circumstances. You werent just driving DAngelo. You were driving DAngelo and his brothers and two or three friends too -- and that wasnt cheap. Youd have to rent a truck or a van and cover food, hotels, everything. And youd have to drive all night sometimes, headlights stabbing through the darkness, the road disappearing beneath you. But you were happy to do it, since it meant keeping all these kids -- your kids -- involved in something positive, safe. All you asked for in return was their attention.YOU ALWAYS LIKED the road. It gave you peace of mind, and youve spent plenty of time on it, missing only about 10 of DAngelos games during AAU, high school, prep school and college. Ten games. In five years. You even managed to attend about 60 games during DAngelos rookie season with the Lakers, shuttling back and forth between Louisville and LA.As for DAngelos troublesome year? You peer out at Louisvilles downtown, pausing for a beat to consider the skyline. Youre not justifying anything, but your son is young, in a new city, a new tax bracket. Hell make mistakes, sure, but you believe adversity is necessary for achieving any goal. And yes, you wonder whether being there wouldve stopped it. But here it gets tricky. You dont want to feel controlling -- you know it could backfire -- though youre not above stepping in. I will do it. I will. I will, you say. Because this is my son. Id rather be overprotective ... than go visit my son in jail or behind a wall or in the grave. And its my responsibility. I brought these guys into this world. This is my responsibility. For hours youve talked with your eyes forward, on the road, but now, at a Louisville stop sign, you turn and make direct eye contact, your hands clenching the steering wheel. You hold your gaze for a long moment before returning it to the road.LAST SEASON, AS an assistant coach for the Warriors, Luke Walton watched clips of DAngelo Russell and thought, This kid could be special. Since Walton became the Lakers head coach, the words he has used to describe Russell have included great, awesome and coachable. These are not the words Waltons predecessor used just a year ago. He can be as good as he wants to be, Walton says.DAngelo suffered through the worst season in Lakers history, one of the most tumultuous seasons a rookie could endure, and if all that didnt change him, its unclear what would. I take it as a positive because all I know is what I came into, Russell says. I got drafted into a farewell tour. I got drafted and came into Byron Scotts era and what we went through as a losing team. Thats all I know in the NBA. All he knows is what it felt like to be removed from the starting lineup 20 games into his first season, to be ridiculed publicly by his own coach, to watch an injury-prone 37-year-old dominate the ball on nearly every possession. While other lottery picks drafted alongside him played huge minutes for awful teams, Russell was often benched late in close games, a seeming indication that he wasnt ready for the moment or couldnt be trusted or both.If his faith in the Lakers was shaken, who could blame him?I dont want that ever again, Russell says. I dont want to come in with a losing record. I dont want to go to a losing team and youve got guys going every which way after practice -- the chemistry just wasnt there.. O. J. Howard Jersey. I feel like with this team and with this organization, people want to be a part of it. People want to be Lakers. Theres just so much pressure, and some guys handle it and some guys cant. Ive always been a guy that, I dont know, just attacks pressure. I want to be a part of this whole thing turning back around. Ive seen what it was to be at its lowest point. I want to be a part of a playoff run this year ... next year, Finals.YOU STEER THROUGH the West Ends Section 8 housing and faded factories. You call this area Lost Hope. You never joined gangs, but you hung out with those who did and saw how easy it was to fall in with them. Then you had kids, the first when you were 19, and soon you feared the West End would consume them. You moved your family to different homes in the neighborhood for years, but it wasnt until DAngelo reached middle school that he and his brothers -- hes the third of four boys -- started living with you on a full-time basis. You were separated from their mother then, and it was only then that you could watch your children constantly. For them to live in my house and to worry about them every single second of their day, it saved my life, you say. Thats really how I feel.Your mission was clear: Avoid the stain of a criminal record. And you called upon the West End to drive that message home. If you want to do exactly what everybody else is doing, youd tell your kids, then youll be on the corner one day, saying, I had good grades. I had all these colleges reaching out to me to do this and do that. But youre still on the corner of the ghetto talking about what you used to have going. Says your son Antonio, You can either go left or right, especially in the environment that we were in, and [Dad] was destined to not let us go the wrong way. Every chance that we got, he was on us. Lecturing us. Telling us. Just anything and everything.Lectures werent enough, though. You had to keep them occupied, out of harms way, especially DAngelo, who, you say, was a kid who didnt mind getting in trouble. He took karate, played baseball, soccer and football. But then there was basketball, which DAngelo liked more than the others, and so did you. Why? That was a way to control him, you say. If you didnt do everything that was required of you to play basketball, then you couldnt play basketball. That was the only way that I could get to him -- basketball. You remember DAngelos first game, feeling overjoyed yet remaining critical. I seen something in him! you say today. I stayed on him. And when one of the parents told you it wasnt that serious, just a little league basketball game, you rose from your seat and walked away silently, though inside your head you were screaming. I want to yell at my son. I want to push my son the way I want to push him. So let me do what I want to do.One day, DAngelo, your goofball, your incorrigible prankster, told you, I think Im going to take this serious. You know, you can take this serious, you told him, and it can change your life.YOU SURVEY THE row of modern, multilevel homes with their two-car garages and spacious, well-manicured lawns, the nearby rolling hills providing a scenic backdrop. Its quiet. I wanted to bring them to a place where there was no negativity, you say. You just feel happy out here. Youre miles from the West End, in an area southwest of Louisville named Valley Station. All along, you knew that to change their lives they needed to leave the West End for good because no matter how close an eye you kept on your kids, DAngelo was a target. If there was an older kid and he liked him and that kid was a cool kid to him, but he didnt go to school and he hung out in the projects or he gang-banged over here, DAngelo couldve followed that footstep, you say. So it was my job to get him away from here. And so you moved your family to a three-bedroom brick home along Pleasure Court; DAngelo was about to start seventh grade then. Finally, your sons could play outside and leave the front door unlocked and you could sleep a little easier. But just two years later, as a high school freshman, DAngelo was dominating to the point that his coaches kept telling you that your son wasnt being pushed, that theyd have to lace up sneakers and practice against him because hes killing everybody.Uh-oh, you thought, this could be bad. Perhaps DAngelo would pick up bad habits, especially in the classroom -- and you knew where that could lead. You, after all, had played basketball too, and had grown accustomed to the spoils of being the tallest (6-foot-4) and best on youth teams. But when coaches told you to run or do pushups, youd lie and say you had asthma or bronchitis. Youd show up just before school ended and practice started. You thought you knew everything. You didnt listen to anyone. And coaches let it slide. They gave you an easy road, and you took it. Then in high school, friends dropped out and you followed their lead. I just gave up, you say. You never graduated, never attended college. You let your grandmothers house fall into the wrong hands. You could go on and on and on. Those are my lessons. Now youre 41 but look half that, more like your sons brother than their father. You hear that one all the time. You tell everybody, My kids keep me young. Are you always on them because your father never could be, dying, as he did, when you were 5? Perhaps. I didnt have nobody in my corner, nobody to push me. I wish I really did have someone to push me. My whole reason for doing this was just to keep my kids out of harms way. I know how the devil is, you say. I know how the devil is.DANGELO WANTED OUT, to go back home to Louisville, but you werent having it. You believed he needed more routine, more structure, more competition. So you sent him off to Montverde Academy, a Florida-based prep basketball powerhouse led by hard-nosed coach Kevin Boyle.Ron Harris, then a Montverde assistant, remembers Russells first practice as a sophomore and recalls that DAngelo, one of the top guards in his class, was destroyed by Montverdes veterans, some of whom would go on to play at Kansas, Kentucky, Florida and Clemson. I put my hand on his shoulder and said, Dont worry, son, its going to get better,? Harris says, and I didnt know if it was going to get better. Boyle wasnt sure either: He had high-level ability, a little bit too cocky at first, too confident, so I had to break him down a little bit and build him back up.In one game late in Russells first season, Boyle said he didnt care if the sophomore took 20 shots, but he didnt want him shooting the first time he touched the ball ... and thats exactly what Russell did. Boyle benched him for the rest of the game. DAngelo couldnt believe he didnt get much run, but he didnt play hard enough at the time. That kind of became an awakening for him, Harris says.Rae Miller, an assistant coach, says Russell would be the one to pull up his shorts too high or take wild shots in practice to break up the monotony. Boyle says that if Russell were to miss five shots in a row, he might blame the ball or the rim or whoever passed him the ball, but never himself. At the end of Russells rocky sophomore season, Miller drove him to the airport, believing Russell could be gone. I think his dad understood that he needed the discipline from me as a coach and the school, Boyle says. I knew he was going to make it. I knew from that moment that his father had laid down the law and said, This is what youre doing, and I think he just started to get better and buy in.Russell stayed for two more years, and he says his three seasons in Florida fast-tracked his maturity. But the joker in him remains. Ohio State womens basketball star Kelsey Mitchell recalled how at OSU DAngelo would wet a wad of paper, stick it in someones ear and act like it was someone else. With the Lakers, Thomas Scott says Russell is the type whod tell someone he had a smudge on his shirt, then run his finger up to the guys nose when he looked down: Made you look! Now imagine, for a moment, how those antics would align with Kobes maniacal, no-nonsense mentality. Still, you believe that all things happen for a reason, that the powers that be orchestrated that your son could spend his first season alongside Bryant, who was in his last. DAngelo, if you can get that killer mentality from him or that business savvy from him, or if you can just get the mentality of what it takes to make it, youll be great, you told your son. Youll be in a better position than anyone.JUST ABOUT EVERY day, if theyre looking for you, theyll find you in the West End, where plenty of family still live. The area hasnt changed much, you say. It drove you to push all your sons, not just DAngelo. You couldnt let any of them fail. Now one of those sons is studying to become a lawyer and another hopes to become a CEO. You like to believe that the weight of your words, the sheer onslaught of them, pushed your kids to think: I gotta find something and succeed at it because if I dont, Im going to be the one left at home with Pops, listening to his lectures. Im saying it as a joke, you say, but thats probably what was in his head. You tell your kids that you dont know it all, that you know only from all the mistakes youve made and those youve seen, and that if they just do the opposite, theyll be fine. You, like any father, want them to be better than you were, and to you theyve already surpassed you. I feel like I have a dynasty, you say.At times, you thought youd pushed so hard that theyd grow up to hate you. Yeah, you talk too much. You lecture too much. You might even get on their nerves. You know it. But they understand your story. They respect where youre coming from, which comforts you. Because even if you told them 20 times not to try to beat a yellow traffic light, it needs to pay off only once to be worth it.You tell DAngelo that pressure either bursts a pipe or forms a diamond. You plan to observe that process in person -- to move to Los Angeles for the 2016-17 season, to sign a one-year lease in the same Westside neighborhood as your son, just to make sure everything is going smooth, you say. Or maybe, just maybe, youll stay longer than one season. Youll make that decision in time. And yeah, you know how all this sounds. But youd rather be overbearing than have something bad happen, than to go visit your son in jail or behind a wall or in the grave. Its your responsibility, you tell yourself. And if you forget, you just swing by the vacant lot where the family heirloom once stood. Remember: You brought these children into this world. You cant put their lives in anybody elses hands. If somebody hit a home run, wed do the alligator arm for Solarte, Rosales said. It was just a tribute. I feel like it would mean a lot to Solarte to know how much he means to us, how much his family means to the San Diego Padres. Before the game, the Rockies held a moment of silence for Yuliett.Im sure it was a tough day for them to play, Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. SAN DIEGO -- The USC Trojan from Huntington Beach beat the UCLA Bruin from Newport Beach. . Ian Kennedy outpitched Gerrit Cole, combining with two relievers on a four-hitter, and the San Diego Padres beat the NL Central-leading Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 Wednesday to avoid a three-game sweep. "Thats a classic matchup. A Bruin and a Trojan," said Padres manager Bud Black, whose father attended USC. "I liked the outcome. I liked the result. They both threw well. Theyre both fine young pitchers. You can see where he was the No. 1 pick. Its the first time weve seen him, obviously. Hes got a good arm." Cole pitched at UCLA before the Pirates made him the first pick overall in the June 2011 draft. Kennedy, a first-round draft pick of the New York Yankees in 2006, is five years older than Cole, so he never played against him in college. "UCLA wasnt very good when I was there," Kennedy said. "Theyre very good now. Ill give them that. It was a rivalry just because it was UCLA. We beat up on them pretty good." Kennedy gave Cole his props. "He is a No. 1 pick overall, and he throws a lot harder." Yonder Alonso drove in both runs for the Padres. The Pirates lead in the NL Central was reduced to one game over the St. Louis Cardinals, who beat Milwaukee 8-6. Kennedy (5-9) won for the second time in four starts since being obtained from the NL West-rival Arizona Diamondbacks on July 31. He held Pittsburgh to four hits, struck out eight and walked three. In his previous start, Kennedy allowed three home runs in 4 2-3 innings in a 5-2 loss to the New York Mets on Friday. Luke Gregerson pitched the eighth, walking Felix Pie and allowing Andrew McCutcheons sacrifice fly, and Huston Street worked the ninth for his 24th save in 25 chances. The Pirates lead in the NL Central was reduced to one game over the St. Louis Cardinals, who beat Milwaukee 8-6. Kennedy got into and out of trouble in the first, when the Pirates had two singles and two walks in the first inning, and didnt score. Pie, who was promoted from Triple-A Indianapolis earlier Wednesday, beat out an infield single before being thrown out trying to steal second. With two outs, McCutcheon singled and Pedro Alvarez and Russell Martin walked to load the bases. Kennedy got out of the jam by striking out Garrett Jones. "I thought Ian, after the first inning, settled in and really threw the ball well," Black said. Before striking out Jones, Kennedy said he was "trying to throw the strikeout pitch rather than having them put it into play weakly and see what happens." Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Kennedys changeup was "filthy." "His fastball command came around about the second inning," Hurdle said. "He was tough to square up. The changeup made the fastball look so much better for him. Hes throwing 91 (mph) and its coming in after that changeup looking way hotter than that." Alonsos sacrifice fly in the third brought in Will Venable, who hit a leadoff double and advanced on Chris Denorfias groundout. In the fifth, Alonso singled in Denorfia, who singled with two outs and stole second. "I just felt like I let a pretty good opportunity slip away because we had an opportunity to come in here and sweep and set the tone for the San Francisco series," Cole said. "I was just disappointed that I wasnt better able to help the team." Said manager Clint Hurdle: "There were some balls up. He pitched out of the stretch most of the time. I think he competed very, very well. He had a good outing." Cole (6-6) allowed two runs and 10 hits in six innings, struck out five and walked none. NOTES: It was the first time a former USC pitcher beat a former UCLA pitcher since Seattles Randy Johnson beat Tim Leary of the New York Yankees on May 17, 1991. ... To make room for Pie, the Pirates optioned RHP Ryan Reid to Triple A. To make room on the 40-man roster for Pie, Wandy Ramirez was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. ... The Pirates open a four-game series at San Francisco on Thursday night, when LHP Jeff Locke (9-4, 2.90 ERA) is scheduled to start against RHP Matt Cain (8-8, 4.35). ... The Padres are off Thursday before opening a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs. RHP Edinson Volquez (9-10, 5.72 ERA) is scheduled to start opposite RHP Edwin Jackson (7-13, 4.89). . The 26-year-old Ireland striker, who has four goals this season, has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with his new club. With New Mexico State disposed of in a 52-10 rout, Texas A&M could be poised for another big offensive show when the Aggies visit Mississippi State. The Aggies (7-1, 4-1 SEC) and Bulldogs (3-5, 1/3 SEC) will kick off at noon ET Saturday in Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville with the SEC Network airing the game. The Aggies, a surprise No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday, go into the contest ranked second in scoring (38.4 points a game) and total offense (498.8 yards per game) in the Southeastern Conference. The Bulldogs are coming off a 56-41 win over Samford in which they gave up 627 yards, 27 first downs, and 41 points to the FCS foe. They had 669 yards and 29 first downs themselves.Obviously, when youre playing a team like Texas A&M youre going to have to score some points because they score, Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen said. Theyve put points on the board against everybody so youre going to have to score some points to keep yourself in the game. The Aggies are a well-balanced offense with the split between rushing and passing yardage about as even as you can get. The number on the ground is 249.1 yards per game. Through the air it is 249.6 yards per game. What would A&M coach Kevin Sumlin like?More.Got to continue to get better offensively at what we want to do, he said, looking back on the 515-yard outburst against New Mexico State. Thought we operated pretty well on third down early in game. Got to continue to get better every week.Look at everything Sunday, get with players Monday and talk about the good stuff and the things we need to get fixed. Monday practice mostly about fixing our own issues and not letting them pop up again.Mullen is no stranger to Sumlins offenses. This will be the seventh time in eight seasons the two have matched wits on opposing sidelines during Mullens tenure at Mississippi State.Sumlin is a 4-2 in those games head-to-head including his time at both Houston and Texas A&M.Hes a really good offensive coach, Mullen said. They do a nice job of trying to be innovative and spread the field and utilize players a lot in the same way that we do. Hes not afraid to think outside the box and not afraid to tweak and change around the players that hes had.Keying the Aggies attack is quarterback Trevor Knight. The Oklahoma transfer has completed only 53.3 percent of his passes, but they have been good for over 233 yards a game. His favorite target, veteran wide receiver Christian Kirk, has 54 receptions for 446 yards, and Josh Reynolds provides big-play potential with 586 yards on 19 receptions, an average of 19.5 yards per play. But Knight also provides a running threat. He is second on the team in rushing with 529 yards to running back Trayveon Williams 776 and leads in rushing touchdowns with nine to Williams six. That doesnt bode well for a Mississippi State team that has struggled with its tackling. During its win over Samford, Mississippi State missed more than 20 tackles that resulted in over 300 yards after the catch.Theres a lot different things going on that weve got to get cleaned up, Mullen said. We missed tackles high, low, inside and outside. Guys have to have confidence running to the ball and have to have good form tackling.Mississippi State also has a running threat at quarterback. Nick Fitzgerald has stepped in for Dak Prescott, now starting for the Dallas Cowboys, and has rushed for a team-best 657 yards. Not shocked at all, Sumlin said of Fitzgeralds performance. Dan Mullen has done great job of developing quarterbacks, whether at Utah, Florida, Mississippi State. For you Cowboys fans, theres no mistake. Dak Prescott is a pretty good player. Also has experience based on where he came from that has helped him. This guy is no different.Big guy -- 6-5, 230. Thats first thing that gets your attention. He can spin it. Can put it down and run it. Is a load when he runs it. Another one of those deals where you get later in season, quarterbacks that are young are starting to see more things and are getting better. Before we dig too deep into things, let me lead by saying this -- if you prefer Russell Westbrook over James Harden?for your fantasy basketball team, take him. Hyun-Jin Ryu Jersey . Dont think twice.Nobody is going to laugh at you and question the pick. In fact, theres a good chance many will agree with it. Jim McCormick made a strong case for drafting Westbrook first, and he even found a way to weave the great Oscar Robertson into the story to support his case. Its true -- Westbrook is a triple-double waiting to happen just about every time he steps on the floor. Hes a better rebounder than Harden, he gets more assists than the Rockets star and, without Kevin Durant around to shoot 19-20 times a game, its a foregone conclusion that Westbrooks scoring will skyrocket from the 23.5 PPG he averaged last season. To be completely honest, I was firmly on the Westbrook bandwagon not too long ago as well.So what changed? While I still see Westbrook and Harden as the clear top two picks in fantasy hoops this season, all it took was an explanation from new Houston Rockets coach Mike DAntoni for me to re-evaluate my stance. DAntoni, as you know by now, announced early in Rockets training camp that Harden would move to point guard this season.Hes more or less responsible giving rhythm to the team, thats what a point guard does, DAntoni told reporters late last month. Hes going to be on the ball, and hes going to be distributing the ball, and it will take some adjusting. Hes got a lot more responsibilities as a point guard. A playcaller, a good basketball mind, hes already telling guys we can do this, we can do that. This is meaningful for the following reasons:It closes the assist gapNaturally, Harden running the point means theres a good chance his assist numbers are going to bump up from the 7.5 APG he posted last season. Already, were seeing a change in his role during the preseason; he dished out 10 helpers in his first exhibition game and followed that up 11, 15, and 8 in his next 3 contests. As mentioned above, this was one of the main areas where Westbrook (10.4 APG) had a big advantage over Harden last season, dishing out 2.9 more assists per game. You can see the players stats in the chart below:Fast-forward to today, and suddenly its not unreasonable to envision that gap closing entirely with Harden taking on more of a distributor role and Westbrook losing a future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer on the receiving end of his passes. They are trending in opposite directions as far as assists go, and it wouldnt be surprising if both ended up averaging right around 9 APG this season.DAntoni widens Hardens advantage from 3-point landWithout a big assist advantage to hang his stylish hat on, Westbrook is only noticeably better than Harden in one category -- rebounding -- which happens to be the easiest to address on the waiver wire. Experienced fantasy hoops players know how simple it is to stream bigs in and out of the lineup to win the rebound category. The same cant be said of 3-point shooters. They are not a dime a dozen -- at least not the good ones.Sure, as McCormick mentioned in his story, you can always hit the waiver wire to find a 3-point specialist or two if you draft Westbrook over Harden, but too often those specialists come at a cost. Why? Because theyre a complete non-factor in all the other categories aside from scoring.Wouldnt you know it, this also happens to be the one category where Harden has a huge advantage over Westbrook.Harden made 2.9 3-pointers per game last season to Westbrooks 1.3, and that was before DAntoni arrived. This season, you can expect that discrepancy to grow. Harden will have the perpetual green light from long range under DAntoni and almost surely take and make more 3s than last season. The same cant be said of Westbrook, who has never made more than 1.5 3-pointers per game in any of his eight NBA seasons. Thats one part of his game thats unlikely to change with Durant gone.Any way you slice it, Harden is a much bigger 3-point threat than Westbrook.Harden is now eligible at PG and SGSo the biggest advantage Westbrook previously had over Harden -- dishing out assists -- probably is reduced, and Hardens biggest previous advantage -- making 3-pointers -- is probably even more extreme. Unbelievably, neither of these may matter as much as the fact that Harden is now draftable at both shooting guard and point guard.Value-wise, this gives Harden a huge boost over Westbrook, who is only point guard-eligible at ESPN and most other prominent fantasy sites. As Ive been saying since the start of September, its important to draft a top-level point guard early in drafts this year due to a huge talent drop-off at the position from pick 30 to pick 50, and now drafting Harden makes that possible. What Hardens dual eligibility does is take the edge off during the draft process. If you draft him, you can always look for another point guard in rounds two or three and utilize Harden at the SG spot. You could also be in range for someone like Chicago SG Jimmy Butler in the second round, which would then allow you to use Harden as your primary PG.The point is, having a quality point guard and still managing to find a good shooting guard isnt easy this year, with shooting guard again being one of the thinnest positions, and drafting Harden provides flexibility you simply cannot get by selecting Westbrook.Think of the flip side. If you draft Westbrook, you still have to find a shooting guard and someone -- shooting guard or not -- who can make up for Westbrooks lack of 3s.Its a close call, but the more I look at it, the more I prefer Harden -- who missed only one game over the past two seasons compared to 17 by Westbrook -- as my choice for the No. 1 pick. The world No. 1 superstar Williams extended her career-best winning streak to 32 matches by handling Luxembourgs Mandy Minella 6-1, 6-3 on Centre Court at the venerable All England Club. Williams won every point on serve in a lopsided first set, but Minella stunningly broke the American stalwart and then held for a 2-0 lead in the second. The formidable Williams, however, then went on to win four straight games, including a pair of breaks, to assume control once again. Minella would later fight off a match point before the American great converted on a second to move on. "For me, its the greatest moment for a tennis player, to walk out on Centre Court," Williams said. "That was such a great moment, too. So many great memories on this court." Williams is now 75-3 since losing in the first round at last years French Open. The 31-year-old is the reigning Wimbledon, French Open and U.S. Open champ who owns 16 Grand Slam singles titles overall. She beat Radwanska in last years final here to capture her third Wimbledon title in four years and also captured an Olympic gold medal at the All England Club last summer. Janelle Bailey remembers tiptoeing into her sisters hospital room at Boston Medical Center nearly four years ago. Cheap Nike Air Max 1 Trainers Red .Gisele, a 6-foot-3 forward who had landed all sorts of honors in high school and had sorted through more than 70 basketball scholarship offers before arriving at Harvard, was headed for double hip surgery.Gisele had been battling lupus, and one of her medications had caused the bones in her hips to break down with no chance for regeneration. Surgery corrected the problem, but that was the end of Giseles basketball career. She never got to play for Harvard and instead became the team manager, a position the 21-year-old still holds as she enters her senior year.Janelle, now 17, watched. And learned.Seeing what my sister went through made me want to play basketball even more, Janelle said. I no longer have those moments where I think, Oh, I cant push through this practice.I think about my sister, and I know she would want to do this right now, but she cant. Having that in the back of my mind every day has changed my outlook.Janelle, a 6-foot-3 center, is a rising senior at Providence Day School (Charlotte, North Carolina). She recently returned from Spain, where she started all seven games and helped lead Team USA to a bronze medal in the FIBA U17 Womens World Championships. She averaged 9.3 points and 9.1 rebounds and had 10 points and 11 rebounds in the Americans only defeat, a 73-60 loss to eventual champions Australia in the semifinals. In that game, Bailey made half of her eight shots from the floor. The rest of the team shot just 28 percent. Then again, Bailey is a rarity these days -- shooting from close range, playing in the paint with her back to the basket.Janelle is a dying breed -- an intimidating presence on both sides of the court, Providence Day coach Josh Springer said. Ive heard from a lot of coaches who say their players feel intimidated by Janelle from the moment she steps on the court.Born in New York City, Bailey comes from an athletic family. Her 6-foot-5 father, Hessard, is a native of Jamaica and did some amateur boxing. Her mother, Kim, a native of New York, ran track in high school and is a lifelong Knicks fan.The family moved to Charlotte when Janelle was 2, and her basketball love emerged four years later, following in the sneaker-prints of Gisele. But Wayne Hinton, who started coaching Janelle when she was 10 and guided her through her years with the Charlotte 76ers AAU team, noticed something different about the younger of the two Bailey kids.No offense to her sister, but I knew Janelle was going to be better, Hinton said. Thats just what I got out of it -- Janelle learned from her sisters mistakes.Janelle learned how to finish through contact, how to space the floor, the importance of proper footwork. [Gisele] was a finesse player. Janelle embraced contact.Bailey, a starter since her freshman year at Providence Day, has already won three state titles and scored more than 1,000 points. The Chargers, who compete in the North Carolina Independent School Class 3A, have won seven consecutive state titles and 11 in the past 12 years. In February, Bailey led Providence Day with 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two blocks as the Chargers shut down Raleigh Ravenscroft 42-21 in the state finals.Providence Day senior Erin Whalen, who signed with Vanderbilt, had 11 points and six rebounds and was named North Carolinas Miss Basketball and the states Gatorade Player of the Year.Bailey, who averaged 16.8 points and 8.8 rebounds last season and made first-team all-state for the third year in a row, figures to be a strong contender for those honors as a senior.Shes an amazing basketball player, said Kennedy Boyd, a guard at Providence Day. You dont see too many 6-3 girls who can dribble, shoot, rebound, pass and play in the post like her.Bailey has had just about everything go her way in her basketball career with the exception of last year, when she tried out for the USA U16 team and lasted until the next-to-last cut.It was heartbreaking, knowing all the work I put in, Bailey said. [Getting cut] didnt feel all right. But it gave me fuel to want to try out the next year.Springer said Baileys determination, perseverance and passion for the game were on full display over the next year as prepared for another crack at Team USA.She committed herself to improving her fitness and her running mechanics, Springer said. She worked tirelessly on finishing around the rim and increasing her shooting range.Baileys work paid off, and now colleges across the country are even hotter on her recruiting trail. With more than 50 scholarship offers, Bailey will have her pick of schools. She plans on figuring out her five finalists next month, but she has not ruled out Harvard, a program she is extremely familiar with because of her sister.Bailey, who has a 3.0 GPA, wants to study medicine just like her sister, and academics will be the main criteria she uses in selecting a college.Basketball, though, is always close to Baileys heart -- just ask her sister.Gisele, who was a four-time team MVP at Charlotte Christian, left her high school as the programs all-time leading scorer.According to Giseles bio at Harvard, she scored more points at Charlotte Christian than the schools most famous alum -- NBA MVP Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors.Im very proud of Janelle -- making Team USA was one of her dreams, Gisele said. I think what happened to me made her appreciate the game. She knows the next practice could be the last one for her or anyone. She doesnt take anything for granted.
