LOS ANGELES -- Everybody got your National League Championship Series storylines straight now? Cool. Air Max 270 React Bauhaus . Tuesdays story: Cubs dead. Wednesdays story: Cubs back from dead. OK, that about sums it up. Now lets all overreact.Everybody had us buried yesterday. Today were on top of the world, said Cubs catcher David Ross, again displaying his excellent grasp of modern civilizations need to oversimplify, after his teams 10-2 scrunching of the Dodgers on Wednesday in Game 4 of the NLCS. But we dont ride that roller coaster. No, thats our job. And were quite good at it, if we do say so ourselves. Instead of feeding you the usual baloney about momentum shifting and bats awakening, we thought wed try a different approach today.Lets try to figure out what we know, what we dont know and where this National League Championship Series goes from here, now that its tied at two games apiece.Do the Cubs really have the momentum now?Hmmm. Is that a trick question? The real question is whether momentum even exists in a series as topsy-turvy as this one.Cubs left fielder Ben Zobrist assured us that momentum is a real thing. And Cubs manager Joe Maddon announced that when you start hitting, its contagious. But over on the other side, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was still trying to recover from a messy eruption of errors, mistakes and other forms of self-destruction, yet still found a way to predict confidently: I expect for us to play a much cleaner game tomorrow. So to recap, have you noticed that winning teams always seem to believe in momentum much more passionately than losing teams? Of course they do -- maybe because it feels better. But in reality, said Ross, a man playing in his 11th postseason series, the outside world has no firm comprehension of what momentum actually means in October. Its day to day, he said. Its game to game. Its pitch to pitch. Its small victories. And friends, all of that is true. But do blowout victories like this, even in gigantic win-or-else games, really tell us anything about who is going to win this series? Weve done the math. And that answer is NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.Here is the proof: The Cubs are the 10th team in history to win Game 4 of a best-of-seven LCS on the road to even that series. So if momentum really existed, you would imagine that the previous nine teams would have used those huge wins as the impetus to roar back and win the series, right?Nope. That would be wrong -- even though all the teams that were in that situation knew theyd be playing Games 6 and 7 at home.Of the nine Game 4 winners, six of them went on to lose that series anyway. The only exceptions were the 1998 Yankees (against the Indians), the 1993 Phillies (against the Braves) and the 1988 Dodgers (against the Mets). So beware of momentum at times like this, even though it seems so obvious.Have the Cubs bats really reawakened? Can we all agree there was an excellent chance the Cubs werent going to get shut out in every game for the rest of this series? They hadnt been shut out in two straight games in 2 ? years before it happened to them in Games 2 and 3. And it has been 50 years since any team got shut out in three straight postseason games -- when the 1966 Dodgers pulled that off against the Orioles. So sooner or later, the Cubs were due for a game like this. Anthony Rizzo was 1 for his last 28. Addison Russell was 4 for his last 56. And coming into this game, they had gone a combined 3-for-50 in this postseason. So they were due to revert to their mean, too.Russell admitted this week he has been struggling to control his adrenaline in the biggest games of his life. Rizzo has been burying himself in counts and chasing pitches he hadnt chased all year. So were there signs of life for both of them, in a game in which they combined to go 6-for-10, with a homer apiece? Absolutely. The biggest thing, said Cubs bench coach Dave Martinez, is that I know [hitting coach John Mallee] talked to both of those guys about staying in the middle of the field and if they did that, the adrenaline would take over. He said, Lets not get ahead of ourselves and use the biggest part of the field. And Addie had great at-bats. Rizzie had great at-bats. And they all did.But recognize that once Dodgers starter Julio Urias appeared to get unraveled by a Zobrist bunt hit and a couple of soft singles before serving up Russells game-turning two-run homer in the fourth, the Cubs did most of this damage against the less-than-elite portion of the Dodgers bullpen. And we recommend you file that knowledge away, because well give you more perspective on that momentarily. What will Game 5 bring? If youve been paying attention, you know the correct answer to that question would not involve momentum. No, this game will actually bring a pitching matchup --?Jon Lester versus Kenta Maeda -- that would seem to tilt heavily in the Cubs favor. And lets just say that was a pregame topic of concern among the Dodgers, even before Game 4.Lester has now faced the Dodgers three times this year. In 21 innings, he has given up just 10 hits and two runs -- both of them on solo homers. So theres that. He also is a man who has been there, done this October thing in seven different seasons, and been about as good at it as any active pitcher not named Madison Bumgarner.Over 16 postseason starts plus two relief appearances, Lester has a 2.57 ERA, and has allowed one earned run or none in half of those starts. Meanwhile, this is where we remind you that the Dodgers had the worst batting average (.213) and OPS (.622) against left-handed pitching of any team in baseball during the regular season. And nothing has changed in this postseason, where theyre at .187, with a .581 OPS.Maeda, on the other hand, seems to have hit the wall in what was mostly a tremendous rookie season on this side of the Pacific. He was the Dodgers leading winner, but in his past four starts (including the postseason), he has a 9.88 ERA and has gotten an average of 10 outs per start. So the Cubs are in excellent position to find themselves heading home, up three games to two.Any chance of Kershaw? It wouldnt be hard to draw up a juicy list of reasons that the Dodgers really ought to push Clayton Kershaw up a day to start in this game instead of Maeda: (A) Hes Clayton Kershaw! (B) It would give the Dodgers the option to pitch him in relief in Game 7 if they need him. (C) It also would line him up to start Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday in Cleveland if the Dodgers make it. And (D) have we mentioned hes Clayton Kershaw! But Roberts was adamant, both before Wednesdays game and after Wednesdays game, that that wasnt happening. So Maeda will start Game 5. And Kershaw will come back Saturday (on extra rest) for Game 6, to give him some much-needed recovery time after pitching four times in 10 days earlier this month.Tomorrow isnt a deciding game, Roberts said Wednesday. Its not an elimination game. And I think the accumulation of his usage over the last 10 days plays a factor in our decision. So I think those are kind of the reasons why were not going with Clayton tomorrow. What he didnt say is that the Dodgers have decided that, because they need to win two more games in this series, they believe their best shot is Kershaw and Rich Hill on full or extra rest in Games 6 and 7. And they might be right -- because here comes the most important question of all.Can the Cubs figure out Kershaw, Hill or Kenley Jansen?Put away your Cubs bats are alive and well narratives and look at this series this way:? Against pitchers not named Kershaw, Hill or Jansen, theyre hitting .291 in this NLCS (23-for-79), with 12 extra-base hits.? But against the Dodgers big three -- Kershaw, Hill and Jansen -- theyre hitting a slightly different .093 (5-for-54, with 18 strikeouts), with zero extra-base hits.So why do we think that ultimately, what is going to decide this series is whether the Cubs can figure out a way to score against two of the most unhittable left-handed starters in baseball and a dominant closer who now routinely starts warming up in the seventh inning when the game demands it?We ran that question past one scout covering this series. He didnt paint a real attractive picture of the Cubs chances. They wont beat Kershaw, he said, unequivocally. And I think they will struggle again with Hill. Anyone who pitches in and changes speeds will have success against the Cubs right now. Any kind of downer breaking ball destroys them. But when we raised this uncomfortable topic in the Cubs clubhouse Wednesday night, it was about as popular a subject of conversation as goats and curses. Were just going to worry about tomorrow, Martinez said. When the time comes Saturday to face that monster, well worry about it when it comes.Weve got to worry about tomorrow first, Ross said, without any consultation with his bench coach. If were worried about facing Clayton Kershaw at some point, then weve got bigger problems. Weve got to worry about the task at hand.I do know this team is usually a lot better the second or third time they face a guy, Ross went on, in his relentless search for rainbows and sunshine. So if you want to paint a narrative, how about that one?We would like to say, right here, that we greatly appreciate all suggestions for future narratives that help get us through another day of incisive postseason coverage. But in this case, were going to politely decline, because we dont need to make any official announcements of our weekend narratives until, well, the weekend.Just remember, though, whatever happens Thursday in Game 5 of this series, it probably wont mean what you think it means. Because this time of year, almost nothing ever does. WASHINGTON -- The Washington Nationals already have an impressive starting rotation. If Gio Gonzalez returns to form, the NL East race may soon develop into a runaway.Gonzalez pitched seven innings of two-hit ball, Trea Turner and Wilson Ramos homered and the Nationals beat the San Francisco Giants 5-1 on Friday night in a matchup of first-place teams.Washington jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Jeff Samardzija (9-8), and Gonzalez made it stand up in arguably his finest outing of the season.Coming off a tough 3-1 loss in San Francisco on Sunday, Gonzalez (7-9) struck out seven, walked one and had five three-up, three-down innings.Gonzalezs ERA grew to 4.81 at the end of June, but hes brought it down to 4.13 after four consecutive starts with two or fewer earned runs allowed. Hes won three of those four starts. In a rotation that features Stephen Strasburg, Max Scherzer and 11-game winner Tanner Roark, Gonzalez knows he has to be good to compete.Im just trying to keep up with the rest of the guys, Gonzalez said.On this night, the left-hander was as effective as any of them. The only hits he allowed were a solo homer by Angel Pagan in the fourth and a single by Denard Span in the sixth. He had good command, had his changeup working, an occasional breaking ball and he threw his fastball in and out, manager Dusty Baker said.Sammy Solis gave up two hits in the eighth and Mark Melancon got three straight outs to complete the four-hitter.It was the fourth straight win for the Nationals, who came in with a seven-game lead over Miami in the NL East. The Giants remain atop the NL West, though their lead is dwindling. Since the All-Star break, San Francisco is 5-14 and has scored two runs or fewer in nine of those games.Theyre going to come out of it, manager Bruce Bochy said. It better be sooner rather than later. We better get some good swings.Samardzija has certainly contributed to the slide. The right-hander gave up five runs in seven innings and is 0-3 with a 6.85 ERA in his four starts since the break. Air Max 270 React Fluo. .They got some good at-bats out there and definitely put the ball in play, Samardzija said. Two of the balls were knocked completely out of play: the fifth-inning homer by Turner and Ramos career-high 17th in the sixth.San Francisco pitchers have allowed 32 homers in the last 19 games.Daniel Murphy picked up his 81st RBI with a first-inning single, and Ramos followed with a sacrifice fly.Washington made it 3-0 in the third when Turner doubled and scored on a fly ball by Bryce Harper.Pagan got the Giants first hit with one out in the fourth, a drive into the left-field seats.SHORT HOPSGiants: Span has eight hits in his last 15 at-bats. ... San Francisco hasnt won two straight roads game since June 30 and July 1.Nationals: Jayson Werth has reached base in 36 straight games. ... The Nationals are perplexed about RHP Joe Ross, whos been out for a month with shoulder inflammation and is still experiencing soreness. Were trying to figure out what to do, Baker said.UP NEXTGiants: Matt Cain (3-6, 5.53) starts Saturday in the second game of the series. In his last outing, he pitched five hitless innings against the Nationals in San Francisco.Nationals: Strasburg (15-1, 2.63) has allowed one run and six hits over 13 innings in his last two starts. Lancashire 276 and 128 for 0 (Smith 66*, Hameed 58*) trail Nottinghamshire 476 (Patel 67, Wessels 62, Libby 54) by 70 runsScorecard A persistent breeze stiffened enough from time to time to ask less hardy spectators to consider putting on a jacket but at least it was a day that looked like summer. Gus Williams Jersey . On the field, Stuart Broad worked up a sweat, eager to show his county the commitment that comes naturally to him in Test cricket. But an increasingly benign pitch was giving him very little back.Steven Mullaney, captain against his former county in the absence of Chris Read, was proactive, rotating the bowlers, frequently tweaking his fields, trying to make something happen. Broad ran willingly to where he was directed, chipping in too with suggestions on tactics to try. Deep into the last session, though, Lancashires openers had their sights on batting through to the close, determined that their concentration would not crack. They look like a side who believe in themselves. Promoted teams tend these days to find the step up a difficult one but Lancashire have established themselves among the front-runners. It would be a surprise if they are in first place at the end of the season but their players are not easily cowed.Tom Smith, a solid professional in the best traditions of county cricket, turned 30 now and with the wisdom and experience to go with it, locked horns again with Imran Tahir, as he had in the first innings. After a protracted battle, the legspinner had the last word then but this time Smith, so far, has the upper hand.At the other end, moreover, he had an ally who already looks equally at home playing the long game. Haseeb Hameed is not yet 20 in years but temperamentally seems much older, at least with bat in hand. The pair have been Lancashires best opening partnership so far this year, the first to put 100 or more on the board. In doing so, they have probably saved this game for Lancashire, who trailed by 198 on first innings, a scenario that looked unlikely after Nottinghamshire had lost half their wickets while still 35 runs behind.Steven Croft, as willing and versatile as he is, is not a wicketkeeper and it is a demanding position from which also to captain a side. Whether he could have done much differently, though, is a moot point, given that of all the things Mullaney tried later, none achieved a breakthrough. It has been a different match for Neil Wagner, who took 11 wickets when Lancashire beat Nottinghamshire handsomely at Old Trafford in May. His reward for 33.1 overs of toil this time was 3-107.It was hard out there, on an unresponsive and flat wicket, he said. I thought we bowled well, we asked questions and we bowled better than we did yesterday, when we did not hit our lengths consistently and got hurt.We thought if we could get a couple of quick wickets this morning we might be in with a shout but credit to Nottinghamshire they batted very well. Riki and Samit batted really well, as did Broady and the others who came in after. They never really gave us a chance. But it was a great partnership between Haseeb and Tom and although there is a lot of work to do yet hopefully we are in a good position now to save the game.Patel and Wessels could not be parted for more than an hour, adding 43 to an overnight lead of 27 before Patel, who had been watchful for the most part, feathered the thinnest of edges to Croft off Smith, who dismissed Wessels soon afterwards. Looking to accelerate the pursuit of bowling points, Wessels went after Smith and picked up his ninth boundary but was undone by the next delivery, which pushed him on to the back foot and took the edge, Liam Livingstone backpeddling from slip to take the catch.Wessels had to leave the field with a finger injury later in the day, handing the wicketkeeping gloves to Brendan Taylor for a period, but was able to resume after treatment. The end of one significant partnership, one that was worth 105 runs, merely introduced another. Broad, who has given good value to his county with the bat as well as the ball this season, combined with Brett Hutton to add another 79 for the eighth wicket, 31 of which came within the space of 18 deliveries, 24 from Broads bat, to clinch maximum batting points for Nottinghamshire with just one ball to spare. In an innings notable for unconverted starts - nine players made between 30 and 67 - neither Broad nor Hutton reached 50 but the lead kept stretching. Even Harry Gurney, a genuine number 11, made it into double figures, for only the eighth time in 95 first-class innings. The win that Nottinghamshire need rather more urgently than their opponents seems unlikely, however, unless Tahir can do something remarkable on the final day. LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers have reinstated Kike Hernandez from the 15-day disabled list and started him in center field against the Arizona Diamondbacks.Hernandez hit .189 with five homers and 12 RBI in 65 games before he was placed on the disabled list on June 28 with left ribcage inflammation. He was 3 for 24 (.125) during six games in a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment.Hernandez, who had started at five positions for Los Angeles already in 22016, made his first start in center field on Sunday. The Cubs are trying to win for the first time since 1908 , a dead ball-era matchup at a time home runs were rarities along with telephones. No player is alive from the last championship Cubs or even the last to make a Series appearance -- Tuesday marks the 25,948th day since the Cubs Game 7 loss to Detroit in 1945. When we got home from Boston, there was a monumental parade. It just looked like everybody in Cleveland came out on Euclid Avenue. One teams fans will let loose with the celebration of a lifetime. So is color TV, he said. Youve just got to change with the times. Both teams worked out under cloudy skies Monday as the new 59-by-221-foot scoreboard behind the left-field seats -- the largest in the major leagues -- trumpeted the Sisyphean matchup. While the Cubs play in Wrigley Field, the 102-year-old brick-and-ivy jewel on Chicagos North Side, the Indians are in a 22-year-old throwback-style ballpark originally called Jacobs Field.Led by Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo, the Cubs led the major leagues with 103 wins during the regular season, then beat San Francisco and Los Angeles in the playoffs. But since the playoffs expanded in 1995, only four teams with the best regular-season record won the title: the 1998 and 2009 New York Yankees, and the 2007 and 2013 Boston Red Sox.I promise you, our guys are going to be in the present tense, Maddon said. I think we all have a tremendous amount of respect for history and whats happened before us or not happened before us. But, you know, you go in that room right now, theyre very young. Really not impacted by a lot of the lore.Jon Lester, 7-1 in his career against Cleveland, starts for the Cubs and Corey Kluber opens for the Indians. Lester is 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA in three postseason starts this year and 3-0 with a 0.43 ERA in a trio of Series outings. He learned to prepare from watching Curt Schilling and Josh Beckett in Boston. They prepared the same way for this start as they would for a regular start during the season, he said.Kluber pitched shutout ball twice in the playoffs before allowing two runs in five innings in Game 4 at Toronto. His father, Jim, was born in Cleveland and rooted for the Indians growing up in suburban Highland Heights.I think every parent is excited if their kid has a chance to play in the World Series, said the 30-year-old right-hander, who could win his second AL Cy Young Award in three years. Both teams were dealing with injuries that caused changes in planning.Chicago included outfielder Kyle Schwarber, out since tearing knee ligaments on April 7. He played a pair of games in the Arizona Fall League, going 1 for 6 with a double and two walks.Reports are good, Maddon said. Hes swinging the bat well. Hes running really well.Cleveland, juggling all year because of health mishaps, put on pitcher Danny Salazar, who could start Game 4. The All-Star right-hander has not pitched since Sept. 9 because of forearm tightness but threw a simulated game Sunday.Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis was dealing with a sprained left ankle, hurt when he jumped and shortstop Francisco Lindor accidentally stepped on his foot while celebrating the last out of the ALCS.He might not be 100 percent, but I dont think its going to get in the way, Francona said.Cleveland fell three outs short of the 1997 title when Jose Mesa blew a one-run lead in the ninth inning of Game 7 at Florida and an error by second baseman Tony Fernandez led to the Marlins winning run in the 11th.The Series starts just after a ceremony across the street when LeBron James and the Cavaliers receive championship rings before their opener celebrating this years NBA title, the first for Clevelands big league teams since the NFLs Browns in 1964.Its a pretty neat set of circumstances, said Indians reliever Andrew Miller, the ALCS MVP. Obviously the fans wish they had won quite a bit previously, but I think the Cubs are even going to overshadow us in that history. While Chicago has many famous fans, among them actor Bill Murray and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, Cleveland is rooted on by Tom Hanks and Drew Carey. And the Indians losing history received nationwide attention in the 1989 film Major League, featuring Charlie Sheen as Ricky Wild Thing Vaughn.Maddon prepared for the Series while watching some baseball movies, 42 -- we had to beat the Dodgers before I could watch it -- and Field of Dreams.Im that guy, he said. STATE COLLEGE, Pa. Yeezy Shoes Discount . -- Brandon Smith spent early weekdays last year studying opposing defenses so he could copy players characteristics and mimic tactics as the leader of Penn States scout team defense. Now, hell lead the real thing. The former walk-on linebacker is expected to make his first start in the middle of a banged up defense thats lost all three starting linebackers to injuries when Penn State (2-1) plays at No. 4 Michigan (3-0) on Saturday.Penn State coach James Franklin announced Tuesday that Nyeem Wartman-White will miss the remainder of the season with a right knee injury suffered midway through the Temple game. His second season-ending injury in as many years is the latest blow for a unit already without Brandon Bell and Jason Cabinda. Neither appear ready to return for Saturdays game.Wartman-White began the season at outside linebacker and shifted back to the middle with Cabinda out. When Wartman-White went down, it left Penn State with sophomores Jake Cooper and Manny Bowen, neither of whom had experienced calling the defense. Penn State needed a voice that carried some seniority and experience, even if it was as a captain on the scout team.Enter Smith.Hes been here four years and hes played three defensive snaps, Franklin said. He played 57 plays on Saturday. I think the confidence he displayed and how he called the defense I think helped.A former standout high school wrestler and javelin thrower, Smith made an immediate impact. Temple gained just 2 rushing yards in the second half where Smith finished with eight tackles, one for a loss and broke up a pass. It didnt come as a surprise for his teammates whod watched his efforts on the scout team.He brought 100 percent effort every single day at practice, Cooper said. He made our offensive line better and everyone around him better. He was physical all the time. And a nuisance for an offensive staff that wanted to dial-in gimmick plays in practice but had difficulty doing so with Smith opposing them.Hes one of those guys in practice where you get frustrated with him on scout team because youll be trying to do a play-action pass, youre trying to do a fake with a reverse or something like that, and hed be there, Franklin said. You thought he was cheating the drill, but hes reading his keys. Hes one of those guys. Hes just more athletic than I think people give him credit for.His football IQ is impressive too, Franklin said. Smith said hes learned a lot from studying different defenses each week in order to provide accurate looks for the starting offense. Its a neat experience in that aspect that you get to play in all these schemes and different fronts in front of you, Smith said. From that perspective, you learn a lot more about the game. But as far as fundamentals and things of that nature, you just play the same as always, knee-bend, pads rolled over, hand striking.Penn State will need those fundamentals to be crisp to slow the Wolverines.Michigans multi-faceted rushing attack is powered by a big, experienced group of linemen with three fifth-year seniors in addition to tight end Jake Butt. The Wolverines also utilize a perimeter passing attack to create space for playmakers like Amara Darboh who turned a quick screen into a 45-yard touchdown to spark his teams comeback against Colorado last week.A lot of those sideline pursuits will fall to Cooper and Bowen. Both played on special teams last season and saw a handful of defensive snaps with Cooper starting in Penn States bowl game loss Georgia where it wasnt as loud as what theyre expecting in the Big House on Saturday.I think at this point its going to be growing and communicating together, Cooper said. Communications going to be a big factor when youve got three starters that are all out. Those are all experienced guys. Theyve had a lot of snaps in games and things like that. To be able to communicate is going to be the biggest key for us. Payton Pritchard had 12 points. But the night belonged to Boucher. The last Duck to have at least 20 points and 20 rebounds was the late Greg Ballard in a five-overtime game against California in 1977.Chris absolutely saved us, Oregon coach Dana Altman said. LOS ANGELES -- Jimmy Butler called his shot before Sundays 118-110 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Air Max 270 React Fluo . The Chicago Bulls All-Star swingman knew he would have to score more on Sunday with the Bulls playing without Dwyane Wade, who was sitting out the game to rest on the second night of a back-to-back.So Butler, who is averaging 24.0 points per game this season, told his head coach, Fred Hoiberg, that he would take matters into his own hands as the Bulls tried to bounce back from a tough loss to the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night. He told me before the game, Coach, Im going for 40 tonight, Hoiberg said. And he did it.Butler finished the game with a season-high 40 points, going 14-for-23 from the field and 12-for-14 from the foul line. He also added seven rebounds and six assists in 40 minutes. In a month full of dominating performances, Butler saved his best game of the short season when his team needed it most.He is playing with a tremendous amount of confidence, and thats where it starts, Hoiberg said. If you believe you can do it, thats a pretty good place to start. Jimmy thinks every time he steps on the floor hes the best player out there, and more often than not hes right. Thats a big thing is the confidence and the belief in yourself, and he definitely has that.Butler doesnt want to acknowledge publicly that he feels he is the leagues best player, but that is the mindset he has taken with him on the floor over the past few weeks. He has scored at least 20 points in eight straight games.I think thats the way I have to think, Butler said. If I dont, then I look at it as being just another player thats out there. My teammates tell me to play like that, to think like that, but at the same time even though D-Wades out, hes still helping me through this process and letting me know what I should be doing. Late in the game, early in the game, its great to have him in my corner. As for his prediction before the game, Butler playfully smiled after being told of Hoibergs words.Butlers performance without Wade is even more impressive when compared to LeBron James numbers while playing without the future Hall of Famer. As ESPN Stats & Information points out: In 55 games LeBron played without Wade, he scored 40 three times. James didnt do it until his 14th game without Wade. Butler did it his first time out.I just felt like thats what my team was going to need from me to tell you the truth, Butler said. For me to be aggressive, to put the ball in the basket, with our second-leading scorer out, I knew I had to pick up the pace a little bit. So that was my mindset. Play defense as well but go out and put the ball in the hole.Butlers teammates figured that the 27-year-old was ready to have a big game. Before the game, before the ball jumped up, he came to me [and] just said, Come on, lets get it done, Bulls forward Taj Gibson said. I saw it in his eyes, the desperation and understanding that we got to win this game. This is a big game for us, especially on a back-to-back after losing a tough one which we thought we should have won [Saturday] night, so I saw it in his eyes. He was intense, [Rajon] Rondo was intense, but hes just showing more leadership day by day.The Bulls are now 3-1 on their annual Circus Trip and play the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday night. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs added one more assignment to his long list of responsibilities. The face of Tennessees program also has become the voice of its offense. Coaches and teammates say theyve noticed a difference in him this year in that regard. He doesnt hesitate to let the entire offense know when something needs to be corrected or when someones done something well.Hes definitely more vocal, senior guard Dylan Wiesman said. He stands up and hell get on guys and call them out. That has definitely improved. That is whats making him a better leader.Dobbs, whose 22 career starts lead all active Southeastern Conference quarterbacks, downplays the changes in his leadership approach. The senior said he has always tried to lead ever since taking over the starting spot for good late in the 2014 season. But he acknowledges he has made a few tweaks to his leadership style.Im just being myself, pushing my teammates, holding them to a higher standard, Dobbs said. Ive always held them to a high standard and have said things when needed, but this year its just holding them to an even higher standard than I have in the past. Im glad theyre seeing that and theyre responding to it well.No. 9 Tennessee has its highest preseason ranking since 2005 as it heads into Thursdays opener with Appalachian State. Tennessee is seeking its first conference title since its 1998 national championship.Dobbs is making sure the Volunteers understand whats at stake. If were not executing, hell let us know, junior wide receiver Josh Malone said. If in a certain period of practice were not executing, well start that whole entire period over and make sure were executing that period of practice.Dobbs willingness to face challenges on and off the field explains why Tennessee coach Butch Jones says that when you look at the definition of a student-athlete, it starts with Josh Dobbs.Dobbs has rushed for 1,160 yards and 19 touchdowns over the last two seasons. He threw for 2,,291 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2015. Air Max 270 Ultramarine Solar Red. His classroom performance is also impressive. Dobbs majors in aerospace engineering and made the SEC Academic Honor Roll last each of the last two years.Dobbs wants to design airplanes when hes done playing football and has spent portions of the last two summers performing internships for Pratt & Whitney. His latest internship took place in Montreal, and Dobbs said it gave him an opportunity to test out the French he had learned in high school.I could hear it well, Dobbs said. But speaking it, I was a little rusty.Malone decided to sit in on one of Dobbs engineering classes last summer before they started a workout. Malone said the experience left his mind blown.Im just more fascinated he can handle that challenge and still perform on the field, Malone said.Dobbs latest assignment is to improve his passing accuracy. Dobbs threw just five interceptions last season but he completed only 59.6 percent of his passes, down from 63.3 percent in 2014. He has talked about trying to get his completion percentage up to 65 or even 70 percent.Offensive coordinator Mike DeBord says Dobbs still performed well enough that Tennessee ranked second in the SEC in third-down efficiency last season, but he added that the seniors accuracy has really improved this summer.DeBord also described the change in the way Dobbs is communicating with teammates and really taking control of the offense. He knows all of us, he knows how to work with all of us and knows how to talk to all of us, which is a pretty important part of being a leader, Wiesman said. You have to know how to talk to your guys. He has that connection with all of us.Just him getting closer with everybody has allowed him to be a great leader because he knows how to talk to us, how to motivate us.---AP college football website: ' ' '
FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys left guard Lael Collins?is seeking other medical opinions on his injured toe in the hopes of avoiding surgery, sources told ESPNs Josina Anderson and Ed Werder on Tuesday. 49ers Super Bowl Jerseys .Collins was injured Sunday against the Chicago Bears.Werder reported Monday that Collins would have toe surgery and likely would go on injured reserve, but could return later in the season. Now Collins will seek other opinions before having the surgery.A source told Werder that the injury had nothing to do with pain tolerance, which was asserted by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. (It) has nothing to do with pain, the source said. The kid is tough as hell. Its dependent on the injury.Collins injured the toe on his right foot in the first half and spent the second half of the game in flip-flops on the sideline. Jones said after the game X-rays were negative.Ronald Leary replaced Collins and would continue as the starter. Leary started every game he played from 2013 to 2014 before being replaced in 2015 by Collins, who was signed to a fully guaranteed three-year deal as an undrafted free agent in 2015.Leary requested a trade in the offseason, but the Cowboys declined to deal him because they needed insurance at the position.Last year, defensive tackle Terrell McClain had season-ending toe surgery after getting hurt in Week 2. Roger Craig Super Bowl Jersey . -- The Portland Timbers and Real Salt Lake played to a 0-0 tie Saturday night that left the top of the Western Conference standings unchanged. . Peter Gammons, an analyst for Major League Baseballs network and website, drew the ire of hockey fans on Sunday when he criticized the two NHL teams on Twitter for their physical game the night before. GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Desperate to improve Floridas free throw shooting last season, coach Mike White tried a little bit of everything. He tweaked some of his players mechanics. He increased repetitions in practice. He had guys shoot while tired and winded and with some team accountability at stake. He even considered bringing in a sports psychologist.I didnt want it to become more mental than it already was, White said Tuesday. So he waited until the offseason.Over the summer, White brought in renowned sports psychologist Spencer Wood to work with the Gators. If you can train your mind, use different methods to understand how to stay in that place -- whatever that place is for you or whatever that trigger word is for you -- or get you back into that place of calm, or confident, those type things, I think it can help you with the rest of your game as well, said White, whos in his second season in Gainesville. So far, its made a noticeable difference for Florida (2-0), which plays St. Bonaventure (1-0) in Lakeland on Thursday night. After ranking 323rd (out of 346 NCAA teams) from the foul line last season, shooting a meager 64.7 percent, Florida is up to 78.6 percent so far this season. Two games are hardly enough of a sample size to make White a believer, but he wants to think there is improvement. You hope that moving forward we can be in the same mindset, White said. Im not sure its fixed. I dont want to sit here and think were a great free throw shooting team. But what weve seen the first two games is what weve been in practice. You want that to continue, of course. Our guys are in a pretty good place.White said feedback was positive, especially from center John Egbunu, point guard Kasey Hill and forward Justin Leon. Egbunu (53.2 percent), Hill (53.8) and Leon (46.2) were among Floridas worst foul shooters last season. All three are above 70 percent through two games. Patrick Willis Super Bowl Jersey. Leon said Wood worked with players to find their hype meter on a scale of 1 to 10, telling them they needed to play defense at a more frantic pace than offense, especially at the line.He gave me a lot of different breathing patterns, Leon added. So thats really been working for me. ... Its good to see it impact the game. That means the stuff weve been doing is working, and it shows weve taken the time to put the effort in the gym.Woods resume includes a number of college and professional teams. He worked with the Gators previously, getting invited by former Florida coach Billy Donovan before the 2010 season and helping that team deal with the psychological aspects of trying to get back to the NCAA tournament after a two-year absence. The Gators, led by Chandler Parsons, Kenny Boynton and Erving Walker, returned to the tournament.White blamed free throw shooting for his team missing the NCAA tournament last season. The Gators blew several leads, failing to put teams away late from the line, and had double-digit misses in 10 games. The Gators look considerably more confident this season. If not for newcomer Canyon Barry missing three of his first four underhanded free throws in the opener because of nerves, the Gators would have shot at least 80 percent from the charity stripe in both games.Very nice, very nice, White said. Knock on wood we continue shooting it this way. We have in practice. We just hope we continue to see that carry over. You can see it [in] their body languages, a little more confident at the foul line. ... Its a big factor for us. It kept up out of the NCAA tournament last year, single-handedly, and hopefully this year we continue shooting like this. ' ' '
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The World Cup of Hockey, dormant since 2004 and in desperate need of an identity as it prepares for a relaunch in Toronto in less than two weeks, is already facing a crisis of confidence. Off White Yeezy 350 V2 Pas Cher .Or at least those are the optics facing the NHL and the NHLPA, partners in this venture that hope to rekindle the magic of the long-ago Canada Cup and the first World Cup of Hockey tournaments, as a slew of key players have abandoned the tournament because of injuries. If it were just one or two players opting out of playing in the eight-team tournament because of lingering injuries or fresh aches and pains coming out of a shortened summer, that would be one thing. But Team Canada, for instance, has already had to replace two-time Norris Trophy winner Duncan Keith, former league scoring champ Jamie Benn and two-time Stanley Cup champ Jeff Carter. No boo-hoos for Canada of course, as the host country is deep and replaced those players with a former Hart Trophy winner, Corey Perry, and last years leading point producer in the playoffs, Logan Couture, along with former Olympian Jay Bouwmeester. But many teams have been scrambling to fill in their rosters as players, many of whom had been working out in preparation for the tournament, have suddenly dropped out.The Swedes lost?Alexander Steen, captain Henrik Zetterberg, veteran defender Niklas Kronwall and backup goalie Robin Lehner.Sean Monahan wont be available to Team North America. The Euros will be without potential No. 1 goalie Frederik Andersen. The Czechs, already the weakest of the eight teams, have lost key personnel David Krejci, Radko Gudas and Tomas Hertl. Most telling -- or at the very least, most curious -- was the comment by San Jose Sharks GM Doug Wilson in a press release that praised Hertls choice of preparing for the Sharks season ahead of competing for the Czech Republic. After speaking with Tomas, were pleased that he has chosen to put his commitment to the Sharks and his teammates first, Wilson said in a statement, adding that Hertl is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season. Hertl hinted at the possibility on June 30: I just want to be 100 percent ready for [the] season and I dont want to go to World Cup at just 80 percent health.Could Hertl, who had been skating in the San Jose area, have played in the tournament? And who ultimately made the decision that he should not join his countrymen in Toronto?Maybe Wilson and other executives and players didnt get the memo that this is an NHL-NHLPA collaborative event. And not just any event, but a key moment for the NHL and its players as they navigate the uncertain waters of further Olympic participation and hope to build a vibrant, lucrative international schedule for years to come. This isnt to suggest that players are making up injuries to avoid the tournament. League officials said they, along with the NHLPA, vet all of the injury replacements to ensure the injury claims are valid. Some are easy to confirm. So far, Ryan Callahan is the lone member of Team USA to opt out -- offseason hip surgery will keep him out of action until November. But many of those not taking part in the World Cup of Hockey have been working out and might not miss a beat when regular NHL training camps open, or are expected to play when the regular season opens in early October, making for bad optics. The World Cup might yet turn into the dynamic set piece that organizers on both sides of the table believe it can be.One NHL GM with international experience said enthusiasm for the tournament has already been blunted by the flood of injuries. But another NHL GM with significant experience in international competition said the injury issue might be something that people are focusing on now, but it will soon be an afterthought and wont influence the success of the tournament.Once the puck drops, the players and fans wont care or give it a second thought, the longtime executive said. And lets be clear: An abundance of talent will be on display in the coming days, including defending MVP and scoring champ Patrick Kane of the U.S., a powerful Russian team led by Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin, a star-stacked Team Sweden led by two-time Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson and former Vezina Trophy-winning goalie Henrik Lundqvist, and the dynamic young stars of Team North America, led by Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel and No. 1 draft pick Auston Matthews. But the pressure has increased on those players to deliver a compelling product on the ice to erase the initial perception that players dont really care about the World Cup of Hockey. Or at the very least, care less than we thought they would. And the harsh bottom line is that if the players are perceived as not caring about the new World Cup of Hockey, why should the fans who are being asked to pay top dollar for tickets?Lundqvist, who took a hard shot to the ribs during practice but is committed to playing in the tournament, said injuries are part of the game and each player has to decide what is best for him.It doesnt matter if its World Cup or the start of the NHL season, Lundqvist told reporters as Team Sweden opened camp in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is a tough sport, and people think you just snap your fingers and youre ready to play. No, thats not how it works. You put a lot of pressure on your body physically and mentally and injuries are a part of it. If you cant be there giving it your all, I think its better not to play. Youve got to be honest with yourself, but injuries are always going to happen. Its a physical sport. What this tournament might mean, or maybe should mean, to NHL executives and players comes from U.S. coach John Tortorella. Always a heart-on-his-sleeve guy, Tortorella is especially sensitive when it comes to issues of national pride, a point he has discussed with his team. His son, Nick, is deployed for a third time to Afghanistan as a member of a U.S. special forces unit.In todays world, with whats going on and what our troops are doing over there in all facets, unconventionally, its just nuts, he said. This is about your country. This is a platform for us, for our country. If youre not ready and youre not ready to give, I just dont know how youll ever live that down as you go through this, and thats how were presenting it. Its hockey, but this is about your country first and foremost.Well said by a man who understands better than most the nature of national pride. Yeezy 350 v2 Black Pas Cher . LOUIS -- St. Yeezy 350 v2 Cloud White Pas Cher . This should be celebrated because it will not always be this way. With the amount of money given to players by their clubs these days, it is a wonder that so many of those teams allow the sport to continue to take away many of their assets so they can play for a different team in the middle of their season. . -- Its been a long road back for Sean Bergenheim. This past weekend was filled with great fights. Miss any of it? Heres what you need to know:Saturday at London:Middleweight Gennady Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) TKO5 Kell Brook (36-1, 25 KOs). Golovkin retains unified middleweight titlesGolovkin, the feared middleweight knockout machine, and Brook, the dangerous welterweight titleholder, both had the same problem of being unable to lure the best fighters in their division to face them. Credit Brook for having the bravery to move up to weight divisions to fight Golovkin in a match that came about after so many others had fled from GGG, and Brooks own unification fight with Jessie Vargas fell apart at the last minute. The move, however, did not go well for Brook, who showed plenty of heart and skills. He got in his licks on a night in which GGG did not look at his best, but the result was the same as usual: a Golovkin knockout victory (his 23rd in a row) and 17th successful title defense (only three away from tying Bernard Hopkins division-record 20). Golovkin, 34, a Kazakhstan native living in Santa Monica, California, was simply too big and strong for the man moving up in weight. Despite how fit Brook, 30, looked at the weight, he could not deal with the power and Golovkin rocked him repeatedly. Golovkin did get hit quite a bit, and was marked up, but never flinched because there was not much steam on Brooks shots.Golovkin rocked Brook, bidding for a historic upset, in the opening minute of the fight with a left hook, broke the orbital bone around his right eye in the second or third round, and then was battering him in the fifth round when Dominic Ingle, Brooks trainer, threw in the towel, causing referee Marlon Wright to wave off the fight at 1 minute, 57 seconds. It was an abrupt end to what had been a very exciting fight. Golovkin will most likely move on to a Nov. 26 fight, possibly against mandatory challenger (and secondary titlist) Daniel Jacobs or a unification fight with Billy Joe Saunders (who has already ducked him). One thing we know: GGGs next foe wont be Canelo Alvarez, who seems to want no part of him either. As for Brook, he likely will vacate his 147-pound title and return at junior middleweight, where he should figure in the world title hunt right away.Bantamweight Lee Haskins (34-3, 14 KOs) W12 Stuart Hall (20-5-2, 7 KOs). Haskins retains a bantamweight title (Scores: 117-111, 116-112, 115-113)The storyline heading into the fight was repeat or revenge, and it was repeat as Haskins, 32, outpointed British countryman and former world titleholder Hall, 36, for the second time, having also beaten him in a 2012 bout for the vacant European title. Haskins looked like he might make it an easy night as he easily outboxed the slower Hall for much of the first half of the fight, but Hall came roaring back over the second half of the fight and began to get to Haskins with his heavier punches more and more. Despite getting nailed with powerful shots, Haskins stayed on his feet and boxed and moved enough to take the decision, even though the 117-111 scorecard was surprisingly wide. There was no controversy over the outcome as even Hall, despite the late-round success, admitted that he gave away too many early rounds to catch up without getting the knockout.Flyweight Johnriel Casimero (23-3, 15 KOs) TKO10 Charlie Edwards (8-1, 3 KOs). Casimero retains a flyweight titleEdwards, 23, was a good amateur, but after only 18 months as a pro and having never faced a quality opponent, was in over his head against the battle-tested two-time titleholder Casimero, 26, of the Philippines.Casimero, making his first title defense since regaining the belt by fourth-round knockout of Thailands Amnat Ruenroeng in May, was much too experienced and a much bigger hitter for Edwards to deal with. While Edwards was short with so many punches, and resorted to running at times, Casimero stalked him and landed many clean shots when he got inside. He shook up Edwards with an uppercut in the fourth round and a right hand in the seventh. By the 10th round, Edwards was running out of gas and Casimero knocked him down with a hard left hand. The fight probably should have been stopped right then, but referee Steve Gray gave a groggy Edwards another chance. That chance ended at 1 minute, 57 seconds as Gray ended the bout as Casimero nailed Edwards with two right hands.Saturday at Inglewood, California:Junior bantamweight Roman Chocolatito Gonzalez (46-0, 39 KOs) W12 Carlos Cuadras (35-1-1, 27 KOs). Gonzalez wins a junior bantamweight title (Scores: 117-111, 116-112, 115-113)In a terrific fight fought a very high skill level, pound-for-pound king Gonzalez, 29, of Nicaragua, made boxing history as the first fighter from his country to win titles in four weight classes, something his hero and mentor, the late Hall of Famer Alexis Arguello, failed to do in two attempts against Aaron Pryor.Gonzalez did not cherry pick a belt either. Already a champion at strawweight, junior bantamweight and flyweight, he moved up in weight and edged Mexicos excellent Cuadras, 28, who was no worse than No. 2 in the world at 115 pounds and making his seventh title defense. Gonzalez earned the belt in an exciting, intense battle worthy of its stature as an HBO main event. They traded a lot of powerful punches, although Gonzalezs knockout power does seem a bit diminished as he moves up the scale. Nonetheless, he is so precise with both hands, his footwork is so outstanding and his chin so dependable that he got the better of Cuadras. In fact, Gonzalez dominated early before Cuadras, who raised swelling under Gonzalezs left eye in the fourth round courtesy of a right hand, came roaring back and tested Gonzalez like he has never been tested before.Gonzalez had gotten the better of Cuadras overall and was a worthy victor in a fight in which he outpunched and outlanded Cuadras, according to CompuBox statistics (Gonzalez landed 323 of 905 blows to Cuadras 258 of 893. With another title secured, the big fight for Gonzalez is a unification against Japanese prodigy Naoya Inoue (11-0, 9 KOs), already a two-division titleholder at age 23. Inoue was ringside on a scouting mission and the fight, a dream match in the lower weight divisions, could happen next year.Junior middleweight Yoshihiro Kamegai (27-3-2, 24 KOs) TKO8 Jesus Soto Karass (28-11-4, 18 KOs)On April 15, on a small card in Los Angeles, Soto Karass, 33, of Mexico, and Kamegai, 33, of Japan, both known for their penchant for all-action fights, waged a hellacious fight of year candidate that ended in a split draw, 97-93 for Kamegai, 96-94 for Soto Karass and 95-95. The fight was so good that HBO picked up the rematch and, once again, they delivered the expected action. The difference, however, was that this time Kamegai, a bit quicker and more accurate, dominated.Although this one wont be in the fight of the year discussion, it was still exciting and hard-hitting. It was essentially as though they were picking up in round 11. They both opened the fight by going full blast to the body. Kamegai hurt Soto Karass with one of the many lefft hands to the body, forcing him to take a step back and then grab on. Fausse Yeezy Pas Cher. Kamegai never relented, hammering downstairs throughout the fight. A body shot in the seventh round also visibly hurt Soto Karass, but he rallied to bang Kamegai with hard right hands to the head. In the eighth round, Kamegai landed a clean right uppercut that Soto Karass leaned into. It hurt him badly and he grabbed on to Kamegai to stay on his feet, but later in the round a left hand and a right sent him into the ropes and down to all fours. Soto Karass barely beat the count from referee Jack Reiss and took a beating for the final minute of the round.Soto Karass corner then did the right thing and stopped the fight in the corner after the eighth round. According to CompuBox punch statistics, Kamegai landed 325 of 653 punches (50 percent) and Soto Karass connected with 237 of 704 (34 percent). Also on the card in California, lightweight prospect Ryan Martin (16-0, 9 KOs), 23, of Cleveland, cruised to a unanimous decision over late replacement Cesar Villaraga (9-2, 4 KOs), 31, a 2012 Olympian from Colombia, who took the fight on a few days notice. Martin won 79-72, 79-72 and 78-7. Martin scored the only knockdown of the bout, sending Villaraga to the canvas with a right hand in the fourth round.Saturday at Lemoore, California:Heavyweight Andy Ruiz (29-0, 19 KOs) W10 Franklin Lawrence (21-3-2, 16 KOs). Scores: 100-90, 99-91 (twice)Ruiz, 27, went into the televised main event knowing there were big things to come with a victory and he secured his next fight with near-shutout decision against Lawrence, 40, of Indianapolis, whose nine-fight winning streak came to an end.Ruiz, a Mexico native fighting out of Imperial, California, hurt Lawrence in the second round and proceeded to dominate the remainder of the fight in a methodical performance. With the win, Ruiz set himself up for a world title elimination fight with Hughie Fury (20-0, 10 KOs), the 21-year-old first cousin of heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury. Assuming the remaining details are finalized, the bout will take place in Furys hometown of Manchester, England, on Oct. 29 on the undercard of the Tyson Fury-Wladimir Klitschko rematch. Also on the card, lightweight contender Raymundo Beltran (31-7-1, 19 KOs), 35, of Mexico, seeking another world title opportunity, scored a fifth-round knockout of 32-year-old countryman Miguel Angel Mendoza (23-9-2, 22 KOs), who lost for the third time in his last four fights.Saturday at Stockholm:Sweden heavyweight Dereck Chisora (26-6, 18 KOs) KO2 Drazan JanjaninOn May 7, Chisora, 32, of England, lost a split decision to fellow former world title challenger Kubrat Pulev in a fight for the vacant European title. Making his return, Chisora got a gimme against Drazan Janjanin (13-8, 12 KOs), 27, of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Chisora did not appear to take the fight very seriously, coming in at a career-heavy 262 pounds. He still overwhelmed his low-level opponent, putting him away for the 10-count with a left hand to the body in the second round.Friday at Reading, Pennsylvania:Middleweight Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) TKO7 Sergio Mora (28-5-2, 9 KOs). Jacobs retains a middleweight titleJacobs, 29, of Brooklyn, New York, stopped former junior middleweight titlist Mora, 35, of East Los Angeles, in August 2015 to retain his secondary title in a shootout. In that fight, both competitors were down in the opening round, then the fight ended in the second round when Mora went down again (with a broken ankle). Jacobs wanted to move on to a bigger fight, but none were doable. Mora, barking about how their first fight was not a real knockout , enticed Jacobs to accept in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions card on Spike. This time around, Jacobs erased any remote lingering doubts about the veracity of the first result, including to Mora, as Jacobs floored him five times in a dominant knockout victory.Jacobs was relentless against Mora, who tried to box and move, but was eventually enveloped in Jacobs onslaught. He dropped Mora with a left to the head in the fourth round and again in the fifth round. In the seventh, Jacobs dropped him three more times, first on a left-right combination, then on a body shot and, finally, under another withering assault, which forced referee Gary Rosato to wave it off at 2 minutes, 8 seconds. Jacobs clearly proved his point that he is the better fighter and the win could propel him to a major fight against unified titleholder Gennady Golovkin in November.Lightweight Robert Easter (18-0, 14 KOs) W12 Richard Commey (24-1, 22 KOs). Easter wins a vacant lightweight title (Scores: 115-112, 114-113 Easter, 114-113 Commey)Fighting for the belt Rances Barthelemy vacated to move up in weight, Easter, 25, of Toledo, Ohio, and Commey, 29, of Ghana, put on a sensational battle that should be an honorable mention fight of the year contender as Easter pulled out the win in a very close, brutal confrontation. Both fighters had their moments in a highly entertaining back-and-forth fight in which both fighters showed their toughness and skills.Commeys biggest moment came in the eighth round when he landed a right hand that badly buckled Easter. Referee Benjy Esteves Jr. awarded Commey a knockdown when he ruled that Easters right glove touched the canvas. However, television replays showed that Easters glove absolutely did not touch the canvas. Fortunately, the blown call did not impact the eventual outcome. They went toe to toe in the ninth round and continued to both go for it in the final rounds of the blazing fight. Easter closed out the fight by hurting and wobbling Commey with a massive overhand right seconds into the 12th round. It was impressive that Commey stayed on his feet and made it to the final bell.Friday at Moscow:Junior welterweight Eduard Troyanovsky (25-0, 22 KOs) TKO2 Keita Obara (16-2-1, 15 KOs). Troyanovsky retains a junior welterweight titleIn a mandatory defense, Troyanovsky, 36, of Russia, easily took care of the overmatched Obara, 29, of Japan, who really had no business in a world title match. In the second round, Troyanovsky knocked Obara clean through the ropes and to the arena floor with a flurry of shots. Thinking the fight was over, Troyanovsky did a back flip and began to celebrate. But the fight not over as Obara collected himself, climbed the stairs and re-entered the ring having beaten the 20-count allowed in this sort of situation. As soon as the fight resumed, Troyanovsky was all over him. He landed a ferocious right hand and several other shots, forcing referee Mike Ortega to wave off the fight at 1 minute, 35 seconds. Also on the card, cruiserweight contender Rakhim Chakhkiev (26-2, 19 KOs), 33, a 2008 Russian Olympic gold medalist and former world title challenger, won his second fight in a row as he put away Alejandro Emilio Valori (21-11, 15 KOs), 33, of Argentina, 30 seconds into the second round of their scheduled 10-round bout. MILWAUKEE -- In his second major-league start, Pittsburgh Pirates rookie Steven Brault kept his team in the game even though he didnt have his best stuff. Custom Patriots Jerseys .The Brewers put runners on base in all six innings against Brault, but he limited the damage in a 3-1 loss to Milwaukee on Friday.I kind of came out over-aggressive, I think is how to explain the first four innings especially, Brault said. I found myself just kind of, you know, trying too hard.Brault almost worked around a leadoff double by Jonathan Villar in the first before he hung a slider to Chris Carter, who hit it for a two-run home run.He hit it, good for him, Brault said. If I were to do it again, I would throw the same pitch, just actually get it down where it needed to be.Recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis, Brault struck out Villar with runners at second and third in the second and fourth innings. He kept the game 2-0 until the sixth inning when Keon Broxton hit an RBI double. There wasnt a clean inning out there, Hurdle said. However he made pitches. I liked, especially the two situations with second-and-third with two outs with Villar, whos one of their better hitters ... I thought it was very blue-collar. Very blue-collar effort. The Pirates managed just one run against Brewers starter Junior Guerra. Pittsburgh had just two hits before pinch-hitter Matt Joyce led off the ninth inning with a single.A two-out single by Starling Marte put the tying run on base and chased Guerra. Brewers closer Jeremy Jeffress needed just one pitch to get Jung Ho Kang to ground out to third base to end the game.I really wanted him to get through the inning, Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. I thought he pitched like he deserved to, and I dont think he was tiring or anything like that.Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli had to be helped off the field in the eighth inning after a pitch from Juan Nicasio glanced off Scooter Gennetts leg and hit him directly on the inside of his right foot.STOLEN BASE RACEVillar and Marte entered Friday tied for the most stolen bases in the major leagues at 36. Villar took the lead by swiping his 37th base of the season in the seventh inning.SCHUGEL SENT DOWNPittsburgh optioned RHP A.J. Schugel to Triple-A Indianapolis prior to Fridays game in order to clear room for Brault to be recalled to face the Brewers. Schugel is 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 34 appearances with Pittsburgh this season.TRAINERS ROOMPirates: RHP Ryan Vogelsong made his fourth rehab start Wednesday. He allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings. Vogelsong has been out since May 24 with facial fractures.Brewers: LF Ryan Braun missed his second consecutive game Friday with right side tightness. Brewers manager Craig Counsell hopes to have Braun back Saturday. Just a little bit tight; waiting for it to loosen up, Braun said.UP NEXTPirates: RHP Jameson Taillon (2-1, 3.60 ERA) will make his eighth career start and his second against Milwaukee. He allowed one run on five hits over six innings July 19 against the Brewers.Brewers: RHP Chase Anderson (5-10, 5.40) will try for his first quality start since June 8 when he faces Pittsburgh. BEACHWOOD, Ohio -- Bryson DeChambeau won the Tour Finals-opening DAP Championship on Sunday to wrap up a PGA Tour card for next season. The 22-year-old former SMU player beat Andres Gonzales with a 5-foot par putt on the second hole of a playoff at Canterbury Golf Club. DeChambeau and Gonzales each birdied the 18th on the first extra trip down the par-4 hole, eliminating Nicholas Lindheim and Argentinas Julian Etulain. Its a big patience test for me, and I think I passed, DeChambeau said.DeChambeau shot a 1-over 71 in windy conditions to match Gonzales (68), Lindheim (66) and Etulain (67) at 7-under 273.Not easy with the wind up, and the rough up. It was a brutal test, DeChambeau said. The U.S. Open definitely helped me a little bit, especially with how long the rough was, and being comfortable with hitting wedge shots around the greens. But the good thing is the greens were receptive when hitting irons in so you were really able to throw darts at pins.DeChambeau earned $180,000. The 2015 NCAA and U.S. Amateur champion got into the field as a non-member with enough PGA Tour money to have placed in the top 200 in the FedEx Cup had he been eligible. The four-event series features the top 75 players from the Tour money list, Nos. 126-200 in the PGA Tours FedEx Cup standings and some non-members such as DeChambeau. Playing with an unusual iron configuration with 4-iron to lob wedge cut to standard 7-iron length, DeChambeau birdied the par-5 16th, three-putted for bogey on the long par-3 17th and closed with a par to get into the playoff. For some reason Im able to just let that go and focus, DeChambeau said Really what that does is allow me to just say ok, its gone, its in the past, and move forward. I dont hold it up or build it in me. I just ease out of it. I think thats the most important thing that I stuck with it. Eventually I got a couple to fall, one on 16, and unfortunately on 17 I three putted. But on 18 I clutched up. Gonzalez earned $74,667 to also wrap up a tour card after finishing 154th in the FedEx Cup standings.Main objective accomplished, Gonzalez said. Its only disappointing when you come this close. I had some good looks coming down. I played really solid the whole week. I kept the ball in front of me a lot, which is what you need to do here. ... Im pleased. Im excited. Im sure Ill be more excited after I get losing out of my mind.Lindheim and Etulain already earned cards from the regular-season Tour money list.Zack Sucher was fifth at 6 under after a 71. PGA Tour winners Scott Stallings (65), Rory Sabbatini (70), Will MacKenzie (70) and D.A. Points (71) were 5 under. Englands Andrew Beef Johnston tied for 28th at even par after a 70. ' ' '

Goalie Roberto Luongo, getting the call in place of Game 1 starter Carey Price, was solid when needed in making 23 saves for the shutout. .Y. -- Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone has drawn on his Syracuse connections once again by hiring Rob Moore to take over as receivers coach. STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Accompanied by his platoon of quarterbacks, Joe Moorhead takes the same walk about an hour before every game. The Penn State offensive coordinator moves from goal line to goal line, gripping his play sheet as signal-callers huddle around him. Theyll stop every 10 yards or so for Moorhead deliver instructions and contemplate scenarios.Moorheads methodical approach has paid off for the No. 20 Nittany Lions (6-2, 4-2 Big Ten, No. 12 CFP). Theyve experienced an offensive resurgence in his first season and take a four-game winning streak into their game against Iowa (5-3, 3-2) on Saturday.Id say Im pleased but not satisfied, Moorhead said Thursday. I think weve certainly come close to meeting our expectations in some categories and fell short in a few others. They havent come up short lately, however.Practices are crisp, confidence is high and Moorheads offense looks nothing like the units that sputtered the last two seasons. It barely resembles the gun-shy group that was knocked around by an older, superior Michigan defense at the Big House just weeks ago.I think were learning just as much from the games that we win as the games that we lose, McSorley said. But that hasnt happened since the debacle at the Big House and slow starts and turnovers are things of the past. The Nittany Lions are averaging 107 more yards and just over nine more points per game over their last four since that demoralizing defeat in Ann Arbor prompted McSorley to label the effort embarrassing.Big point totals are Moorheads end goal and hes fixated on two strategies to score them. When drawing up a game plan, the former Fordham head coach aims to limit turnovers and execute explosive plays. He said Penn State practices ball security than any other team Ive been a part of and its working. Penn Statte is plus-5 in turnover differential over its last four games after going minus-4 in the first third of the season. Air Force 1 Doernbecher. I think its the kids getting settled in and understanding what were doing and why as it pertains to doing it in the game, Moorhead said. Theres things within our offensive system that we didnt quit doing, but we emphasized other things. The main shift? Moorheads effort to involve McSorley more in the running game, hoping to juice bigger runs out of star running back Saquon Barkley. As the shifty quarterback has created space for himself and kept downfield passing plays alive with his feet, opponents wary of the teams vertical passing game have had to back off the line of scrimmage. Its opened up room for Barkley to rack up 638 total yards and four touchdowns during the winning streak. In that span Penn State has pulled to second in the Big Ten and 13th in the country with 51 plays of 20-plus yards, 33 of them coming via McSorleys arm.The offenses big-play ability has masked some of its deficiencies.Penn State is converting just 25 percent of its third downs which is worst in the nation and McSorleys completion percentage of 55 percent is 10 points lower than what Moorhead would like to see. But he sees progress even in those numbers.McSorley took 11 sacks over the first four games and just five since and as his completion percentages have taken hits, hes avoided them.Part of avoiding the sacks is Trace making great decisions when nothings there to throw the ball away, Moorhead said. There are very rarely times when we come in and look at the film and say he mis-diagnosed the coverage or misread a read and threw it to the wrong person. ' ' '
